I LOVE THIS SPORT ! Of all the areas to teach this is my favorite. If I could just teach one thing all year gymnastics would be it. I believe it is the best overall fitness teaching tool we have. I teach it three months during the year. The added plus is that the children love it also.
The children learn basic skills on the floor, different apparatus, how to do simple routines, how to spot each other on certain skills and safety. I have check off skill sheets on all the children so they are able to work at their own pace. In the same class I might have some children working on simple rolls and others working on roundoff back handsprings.
Our inventory of equipment for an elementary school is quite extensive. We have:
  • A full size wrestling mat 8 5x10 folding mats 4 4x6 folding mats 3 Incline mats An Octagon mat A Mailbox mat A Pommel Horse A regulation Balance Beam A 14 ft.floor level Beam Two 6 ft. floor level Beams
A 6x12x4 in.landing mat A 5x10 ft. Fat mat Horizontal Bars Uneven Bars Rings A full size Trampoline 2 mini-tramps A Spring Board A Ruether Board Grips and chalk
Over the years we have had several State Champion gymnasts in individual events and some all-around champions as well as many top six finishers. We have also had many local and regional winners in the individual and /or all-around.

The Program PJC Gymnastics offers professional gymnastics instruction to students in Pensacola and the surrounding communities. The classes are offered to students ages 18 months through adult. The main focus of the program is to teach students gymnastics in a safe and positive environment. PJC takes pride in the small classes thus offering more individual instruction and a safer atmosphere. Today the program offers over 25 preschool classes and more than 40 classes for students in the first grade and above. The Mommy and Me classes are designed for children 18 months through two and a half years old and their parents. The main focus of the class is to teach the children in a positive, safe and, "mommy-secure" environment. The students work on eye-hand coordination, motor skills, strength, agility, and body awareness with the aid of their parents. The equipment used is smaller and designed especially for preschoolers. At the present time, PJC offers three Mommy and Me classes that are one hour long and meet one day a week. Tiny Tumblers Classes The Tiny Tumblers classes are designed for children three and four years of age with a student/teacher of 6:1. The focus of the class is a positive learning experience while working on basic motor skills, eye-hand coordination, strength, agility, and beginning gymnastics skills. The children work on all the gymnastics equipment, which is lowered for their height, as well as specially designed preschool equipment. At the present time, PJC offers ten Tiny Tumblers classes that meet for one hour, one day a week.

WHITE ROCK GYMNASTICS White Rock Gymnastics opened its doors to the community in September 1999. In a few short years it has achieved great things. In June 2004 we moved to our brand new custom built facility. The new space boasts a 6300 square foot gym with an additional 3100 square feet of space containing dance studios, party room, viewing areas and reception area. The new space allows us to fulfill the dream of expanding our programs to offer more activities for our community. Some of these programs include Rhythmic Gymnastics, Gym and Dance, Yoga for Kids plus a whole lot more. The expansion also gives us the opportunity to offer a new and exciting program called our AFTER SCHOOL KIDS CLUB. This program is an alternative for parents needing daycare. Children can be picked up from school, given gymnastic instruction, plus have time to do arts and crafts and homework. We service several schools in the White Rock and South Surrey area and fill very fast. As always, we strive to offer children the best gymnastics experience possible. We offer children the opportunity to learn gymnastics at their pace and have programs for the 1 year old all the way up to the Provincial Competitive gymnast. We truly believe that children deserve the opportunity to learn a sport in an atmosphere that is both positive and enriching. Gymnastics provides more than a physical outlet. It helps to develop confidence, self-esteem, as well as improve strength and coordination.

History San Francisco Gymnastics (SFG) is owned and operated by Eric and Erinn VanderMeer, who together, plan and produce the many gymnastics programs that make up SFG. The business began in December of 2001, at which time, total enrollment was 17 students, and space was rented within another gymnastics facility in Emeryville. In June of 2002, SFG re-located to its current premises in Building 920 of the Presidio. Upon opening its doors in June, SFG expected to reach a goal enrollment of 450 students within the first two years. This goal was achieved within the first four months. Since that time, SFG has continued to enjoy tremendous success in reaching its customer base. A strong program, a great location, and a family friendly atmosphere, have appealed to its customers. San Francisco Gymnastics is an exciting and inviting place for people of all ages and abilities to experience artistic gymnastics. Classes are set up around the fundamental skills needed to perform gymnastics as well as most other sports. Students are exposed to a variety of experiences that develop physical fitness, risk taking skills and self-awareness. These experiences are building blocks for future athletic, academic and personal growth. We feel it is very important to allow children of all abilities to have a successful experience in gymnastics classes. Our recreational classes are set up with the goal of teaching perseverance through learning new tricks and having plenty of fun doing it. Our developmental/competitive classes are set up with the goal of allowing children who are driven to compete to be allowed to do so safely with support and encouragement. An essential key to our success is teaching the kids in a physically and emotionally safe environment. In doing this, we are able to create a success story in every class, for each child, regardless of level.

What is Barani Confusion?
Confusion about the actual direction of twist on a Barani (forward somersault with half twist) is a real and common problem. Many gymnasts twist in the wrong direction when learning Barani; that is, a gymnast attempting to twist to the left actually twists to the right!
What Causes Barani Confusion?
Try this experiment. Find a swiveling office chair and spin yourself around in circles. Compare your view of the floor with your view of the roof. Note that, relative to your point of view, the floor spins in the opposite direction than does the roof. (i.e. If the floor turns in the clockwise direction, the roof will turn in the counter-clockwise direction.)
It is no wonder that the gymnasts get confused. The visual information when upside down (looking at the roof) is reversed!
How can I be sure which direction the gymnast twisted?
When observing twisting skills watch whether the athlete turns chest or back to you during the first half twist. If the LEFT shoulder is moving backwards, it was a LEFT twist. And visa versa with the RIGHT shoulder.

This is due to the broad range of physical activities that are used in gymnastics. With gymnastics training as a start, young girls are better prepared for whatever sport or activity they participate later on. More so than any other sports choice, it will build overall body strength, increase coordination, agility, and teach mental focus. Local coaches of all sports confirm the benefits of gymnastics as a training for their sports. So why do more and more moms choose gymnastics for their girls?...
