New Olympic Sports being considered for 2012 : include golf, rugby, karate, squash and "roller sports," while softball, baseball and modern pentathlon may be on the chopping block.
If, as Jacques Rogge has stipulated, no new sport can be added without being deleted, what would you add and what would you remove?

Students tune in for favorite Olympic sports
By Carrie Lewis Published: Monday, August 23, 2004 Every four years, the summer Olympics seem to gain more and more popularity. Despite the rush to begin school, most UM-St. Louis students are still finding time to tune in and watch their favorite summer sports. According to the official website of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the first Olympics are believed to have been held in 776 B.C. Emperor Theodosius, who claimed the events were "too pagan," abolished the games in 393 A.D. It was not until 1896 that the Olympics were re-established and Greece held the first modern games. One hundred and eight years later, in 2004, the Olympics once again returned to Athens.

Gymnatics "Don't be afraid if things seem difficult in the beginning. That's only the initial impression. The important thing is not to retreat; you have to master yourself." Olga Korbut, Olympic Gymnast Gymnastics has existed for more than 2,000 years, but its development as a competitive sport began just little more than 100 years ago. It was introduced to the U.S. and its school systems in the 1830's. The first large-scale meeting of gymnasts was the 1896 Olympics, where Germany won almost all the medals. Gymnasts from five countries competed in events which included men's horizontal bar, parallel bars, pommel horse, rings and vault. Before this time, gymnastic competitions were generally held among local clubs. The first international gymnastics competition outside of the Olympics was held in 1903 in Antwerp, Belgium, where gymnasts from Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands competed in what is now considered the first World Championships. Fun Fact: Did you know that track and field events such as pole vault, broad jump, rope climb, 100 meter sprint, and shot put were considered gymnastics? Track and field did not fully disappear from the World Gymnastics Championships circuit until the 1954 competition. The first women's gymnastics instruction in the United States was given at Mount Holyoke College in 1862. In 1928, 32 years after gymnastics became an Olympic sport, women began to compete at the Olympic level. The U.S. women first competed in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany.

The Olympic Sport of Edgecrafting
I am not planning on watching much of the Athens Olympics televised by NBC. Why not? Well, NBC’s coverage of the major sports and Olympic events like Gymnastics, Swimming, Basketball, and the Opening/Closing ceremonies is too sanitized, too slick, too expected, and too commoditized (i.e. lowest common denominator) for me. However, I do plan to watch the “edgecraft” sports being televised on Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, and USA cable channels. Televising uncommon but common sports like Badminton, Table Tennis, Field Hockey, Water Polo, and Archery is classic Seth Godin Edgecrafting SETH GODIN EDGECRAFTING REFRESHER COURSE
As detailed in Free Prize Inside , Edgecrafting is about going to the “edges” to find innovation. On the outer edges, one finds the out-of-the-ordinary which can be deemed extreme, offbeat, captivating, and downright remarkable. These remarkable goings-on may be far from being mainstream, but they are definitely worthy of talking about. And discovering talk value is where edgecrafting crafts Free Prizes.
