Call it educational, developmental, creative, informal or any other kind of gymnastics you want to. But, whatever you call it there is very little non-traditional gymnastics literature on the Web or otherwise . This will be my attempt with, the help of some of my colleagues, to help rectify that situation. Hopefully you will be able to garner enough information here to make an educated decision as to whether you would like to teach non-traditional, traditional or a combination of both. 159. Gymnastics – News Reports, Sydney Results, Ancient Origins, Olympic History, At
The age bias in gymnastics is changing in favour of older girls, But gymnastics, like all sports, is about risk, and therefore about failure.
http://www.times-olympics.co.uk/communities/gym/gymreport2.html
GYMNASTICS REPORT Tuesday, September 19 Make-up masks mental anguish
From Simon Barnes in Sydney She is the most graceful athlete I have ever seen, with the possible exception of Dubai Millennium. She is the diva of the gymnasium, and has always believed that you tumble for show and you pout for dough. But because of a small matter of fractions of millimetres and seconds, she is quite inconsolable. She is Svetlana Khorkina, and she loves the limelight. Some of these Olympic performers who come out of the shadows every four years do so with an air of embarrassment, blushing and shuffling on to their appointed stages, but not Russia's Khorkina. She struts as if all these Olympic Games were designed entirely to please her. The Games is an occasion that has been created so that she can rise to it. It is hard to be a diva when you appear before your public only every four years, but at least for an Olympic gymnast you know that the audience can be measured in billions. "I want to be recognised," she once said, "from half a mile away." We all looked, we all recognised, for she is indeed unmistakable. But Khorkina, more than anything else, is a sportswoman. Defeat and disaster affect her every bit as much as they do Vinnie Jones. And there she was on her best apparatus, the uneven bars. The women’s team event was expected to be a straight slugging match between Russia and Romania, and Khorkina was expected to lead Russia to the gold medal.

Why you are here at my acro page...
Well, you are here b/c 1)u have no idea what the heck Sports Acrobatics is + you want to find out, or 2)you know what Sports Acrobatics is and you just want to surf the net and find other acrobats out there. Either way, you are here, + that's a good thing! FYI: this page may not be entirely correct, it's based on my personal knowledge of USSA (United States Sports Acrobatics) and competetion. (please e-mail me and let me know if I gave some wrong info, or feel free to sign the guestbook!) I'm not a coach, or an official, so in no way do I know everything there is to know about Acro. But here is my best attempt...
What is Sports Acrobatics
From the CPAT handbook... "The history of Sports Acrobatics goes back all the way to the time of the ancient Greeks. Imprints of acrobatics exercises can be found on ancient amphora's vases and monuments. The word "acrobat" originates from the Greek language. China, too, has a rich history of Sports Acrobatics. At the end of the 18th century the sport started to flourish in Europe, especially with the popularity of the circus. As with many other sports, acro flourished in the 20th century. Acrobatic exercises were not only included in acrobatic gymnastics, but in numerous other sports, too. Today, there are various competitive sports in which acrobatic acts play a very important role. Examples are diving, trampoline, rock-n-roll dancing, ski-acrobatics, ice skating, artistic roller skating, and vaulting on horseback.
