History Athletes Rules Equipment ... Qualifications
The first use of a kind of trampoline dates back to 1800, according to newspapers and commemorative cards of the time. At that time, the Hughes circus in London called one of its numbers “the trampoline jump”, using this word for the first time. Since then, the word trampoline has been used in different circus performances to describe any elastic apparatus that includes jumping over obstacles or vertical jumps.

Hearts can be broken but rules can't. So says Australia's women's artistic gymnastics coach Peggy Liddick as she prepares to name an Olympic train-on squad of 12 from 14 hopefuls tonight. "It's not a hard decision at all. That's the way it goes. It's the rules," Liddick said. "Don't get me wrong, I'm not cold-hearted. They've been the rules for the past four years and everyone knows that's the bar they need to clear." At least three and, realistically, four positions have already been accounted for in the train-on squad, which will be trimmed to six plus a reserve for the Athens Games following an in-house trial at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on July 5. Liddick has exempted precocious 15-year-old Monette Russo and fellow 2003 world championship bronze medallist Belinda Archer from this week's national titles as they recover from minor knee injuries. Liddick said she would definitely pick them, as well as reigning national champion Allana Slater, the third surviving member of Australia's only team medallists at a gymnastics world championships.

What's your game? Is it soccer, roller hockey, basketball or something else? This kid tells us about her favorite after school sport. I have been doing gymnastics for 3 years and it is my favorite sport. I do it every Monday and Wednesday after school. I do vaults, balance beam and the uneven bars. The best is vaulting because I do handsprings. I start off by running and getting as much speed as I can. Then I put my hands on the vault and do a flip in the air. I land on my feet almost every time. After one hour of gymnastics, I usually have some water and a snack. But not too much because my coach says if I eat too much I will get sick. At the end of the class, me and all my friends from gymnastics jump into a big pit of foam. Kidz Submit By:
