The Gulf War Depleted Uranium DU radiation caused a marked increase in deformaties and deaths.
(Click to Enlarge) 'Crispy critters. That was what Selina Perez, who as a US soldier buried the Iraqi dead of Desert Storm, called the corpses burned to near-cremation. These were people whose blood had boiled and evaporated. Their uniforms burned away with their skin down to naked, blackened bones, leaving vacantly staring charcoaled skeletons brittle enough to break up into skull, torso, legs, arms, and ashes. Calling them crispy critters was Perez's way of dealing with the horror of disposing of the radiated remains of death by depleted uranium (DU) in the Persian Gulf.' by Patricia Axelrod from her article Secrets and Lies The Boston Phoenix, October 7 - 14, 1999 In November 1991 it was revealed in a secret report by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority that the allied armies had left forty tons of depleted uranium ammunition on the battlefield. Here it was suggested that the long-term health of thousands of Kuwaitis and Western clean-up teams could be threatened, with the chemically toxic and radioactive waste passing into the water supply and the food chain. The report estimated that US tanks fired some 5000 depleted uranium rounds, US aircraft many tens of thousands of rounds, and British tanks 'a small number'. The tank ammunition alone, it was reckoned, contained more than 50,0001b of depleted uranium, enough material to cause '500,000 potential deaths'.

Saddam claims victory in Gulf War
Saddam remains defiant 10 years after the Gulf War BAGHDAD, Iraq Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has declared a "victory over enemies" of the Arab world during the 1991 Gulf War in an address to his country to mark the 10th anniversary of the conflict. In a taped televised address, Saddam referred to the 33 countries which had taken part in the U.S.-led operation to oust Iraqi forces from Kuwait. "Iraq has triumphed over the enemies of the (Arab) nation and over its enemies," he said. Pro-Iraqi demonstrators took to the streets on Tuesday evening burning U.S. and British flags and protesting about 10 years of United Nations'-backed economic and military sanctions. Western leaders join Kuwait to mark Gulf War win
Kuwait's double celebration begins WEB EXCLUSIVE Christiane Amanpour: Kuwait not moving toward democracy KUWAIT CITY Kuwait marked the 10th anniversary of its liberation from Iraqi occupation Sunday, joined by former U.S. President George Bush and former British Prime Minister John Major. Iraqi troops overran Kuwait in August 1990 and were driven out by a Western-Arab coalition in February 1991. The weekend events mark a double celebration for the tiny, oil-rich Persian Gulf emirate, which marks the 40th anniversary of independence from Britain on Sunday and the liberation anniversary on Monday. Bush and retired U.S. Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf arrived on Saturday, along with Major and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Persian Gulf War, flew into Kuwait on Sunday as part of a four-day Mideast visit. UT Southwestern team traces Gulf War illnesses to chemicals: Three primary syndromes identified
    Contact: Kris Mullen
or e-mail: kmulle@mednet.swmed.edu WASHINGTON — Jan. 8, 1997 — Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas have concluded that some Gulf War veterans are suffering from three primary syndromes indicating brain and nerve damage caused by wartime exposure to combinations of low-level nerve agents and other common chemicals. The findings are published as a set of three articles in the Jan. 15 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. "Each of the JAMA articles solves a different piece of the puzzle that has baffled previous researchers of these mysterious illnesses," said Dr. Robert Haley, chief of epidemiology and the study's principal investigator. "Our findings provide the first evidence of associations between symptoms in Gulf War veterans and exposures to chemicals, including chemical nerve agents." By conducting an exhaustive series of epidemiological and clinical studies on veterans from a U.S. Navy reserve unit, the UT Southwestern researchers identified a syndrome characterized by thought, memory and sleep difficulties; a second syndrome that involves more severe thought problems as well as confusion and imbalance; and a third syndrome of sore joints and muscles and tingling or numbness in the hands and feet.
