health:
The state of health in Guinea-Bissau is poor. The health care system aims at providing basic medical care for all citizens and is engaged in training health workers in every village. The goal is a health post in each section, a sectoral referral system, and a regional hospital within the reach of every citizen.
ECONOMY: The economy is largely agricultural, with good prospects for forestry and fishery development. Rice is the main staple, and export crops include peanuts, cashews, palm products, timber, and seafood. Indigenous hardwoods are the predominant forestry export. Fishing potential is estimated at nearly 250,000 metric tons per year. Most of the fishing is done by foreign vessels CULTURE: Mainly organized by the government.

The Portuguese had been present in the region since the mid-15th century and had established a substantial slave trade there. Guinea-Bissau was administered jointly with the Cape Verde islands until 1879, after which it was treated as a separate entity known as Portuguese Guinea until independence. Like other Portuguese colonies, Guinea-Bissau suffered a protracted war of independence between 1963 and 1974, led on the rebel side by Amilcar Cabral, a highly respected figure inside the country. The independence of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau was proclaimed in 1973, with Cabral as President of the State Council. In 1974 a military coup in Portugal, itself partly the result of heavy losses sustained by the army in Guinea-Bissau, brought about a sudden withdrawal of the colonial authorities. In September that year, Portugal formally recognized the independence of Guinea-Bissau. The leader of the

Tribes of Liberia
  • Background
Many consider the Gola to be earliest tribe to inhabit Liberia, but the Gola themselves claim they met the Dei ethnic group there when they arrived. The Dei ethnic group are a vanguard group of Bassa that settled Liberia in waves. The ethnic groups of Liberia can be divided into five major groups:
  • Mel (Gola, Kissi) Kwa (Dei, Bassa, Kru, Krahn, Grebo) Mande-Fu (Kpelle, Gio, Mano, Loma) Mande-Tan (Vai, Mende, Mandingo) Repatriated (Americo-Liberians, Congo, Caribbean)

The history of most of these ethnic groups spans over thousands of years.
The Dei would settle first and would later be joined by the Gola ethinc group before any of the other Bassa groups arrived. The Gola ethnic group originated somewhere in Central-Africa. During the Empire of Ancient Ghana they were heavily involved in the land-surveying and judicial aspects of the empire. The other ethnic groups that fall under the Mande-Tan, Mande-Fu were also members of Ancient Ghana. Because of the their influence in the judicial aspects of the Ghana, the Gola's social structure dominated through the Poro. With the influx of Islam many groups adopted while others resisted. The Golas fought three wars with pro-Islamic elements in a changing Ghana. These wars were known as the Kumba wars. The Golas lost the third of these wars and were forced to retreat toward, Sierra Leone. They were pursued by the Mende, Gbandi and Loma. Their battles with the Mende in Sierra Leone forced them to retreat yet again and settle finally in Liberia where they encountered the Dei.

In 1994, 20 years after independence from Portugal, the country's first multiparty legislative and presidential elections were held. An army uprising that triggered a bloody civil war in 1998, created hundreds of thousands of displaced persons. The president was ousted by a military junta in May 1999. An interim government turned over power in February 2000 when opposition leader Koumba YALLA took office following two rounds of transparent presidential elections. Guinea-Bissau's transition back to democracy will be complicated by a crippled economy devastated by civil war and the military's predilection for governmental meddling.

Guinea-Bissau launches Bolama as world heritage site afrol News , 8 February The government of Guinea-Bissau has decided to launch Bolama as a world heritage site to the UN's culture agency UNESCO. Bolama, which was the first capital of the colonial administration of Portuguese Guinea, is located close to the famous Bijagos Islands, already a biosphere reserve. According to government sources in Guinea-Bissau, the project to have Bolama included in UNESCO's prestigious World Heritage list will be launched when the Director-General of that UN agency, Koichiro Matsuura, returns to the country in April. A larger process, mostly referring to Guinea-Bissau's ability to manage the site, will than decide whether Bolama can be put on the list.
Mr Matsuura only was in Guinea-Bissau in January this year and held talks with Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Júnior over the status of Bolama and the Bijagos biosphere reserve. The two on 24 January inaugurated an exposition on Guinea-Bissau's natural and cultural heritage in Bissau, the current capital.

Guinea-Bissau is mainly low-lying and swampy. A mostly low coastal plain gradually rises to a plateau region in the east. The highest point of the country (310 m) is situated in the south-east. Numerous meandering rivers cross the country from east to west and form wide estuaries near their mouths. Nearly all are navigable and serve as major transportation arteries.
Climate
The climate is tropical, generally hot and humid. The annual average temperature is around 25°C. The rainy season is from June to November. Annual precipitation is 2100 mm in Bolama on an average. The difference between high tide and low tide is quite remarkable on the Guinean coast. Therefore, when the rivers are in flood during the rainy season and the tide is coming in, up to one third of the country's surface may disappear under water.

Country Information on Brazil
Terrain
Brazil can be divided into three major geographic regions: the Guyanese highlands, the Amazon Basin, and the Brazilian highlands. The Amazon Basin, which occupies more than one third of the country's surface, is the world's largest continuous tropical lowland area. Due to the dense rain forest, which is impenetrable in places, the area is hardly developed at all. Rising steeply to the north the are Guyanese highlands, which are likewise scarcely developed and where the country's highest mountain, the Pico da Neblina (3,014 m), is also to be found.
The Brazilian highlands (the country's second major geographic region) cover a total area of some 5 million km² - more than half of the country's total area. In the east this plateau reaches altitudes of up to 2,890 m. In the west it falls gently away, forming terraces, and hardly ever rises to more than 150 m. In the south-east it drops away steeply and merges into the coastal plain which stretches parallel to the shoreline.
