What Does 'Gifted' and 'Talented' Mean?
The words 'gifted' and 'talented' have meant many things to many different people. The DfES definition is as follows: Talented Top 5-10% of pupils per school as measured by actual or potential achievement in the subjects of Art, Music, PE, Games Gifted Top 5-10% of pupils per school as measured by actual or potential achievement in the other curriculum subjects This definition has two important elements: a) The definition is relational. Being 'gifted' and 'talented' is not necessarily a matter of possessing an objective quality which would mark a pupil as being gifted and/or talented in any other school. It is simply a matter of being amongst the most able 5- 10% of pupils in a particular school.

General Guidance Learning and teaching methods at university Learning and teaching methods at university differ from what you have probably experienced at school or college. Many students often find this transition challenging during the first year of university. At university teaching is usually divided between lectures and seminars. Lectures provide a forum to disseminate information to a wide audience, whereas seminars provide small groups with the opportunity to discuss a particular issue, text or theory based on the content of the lecture and the required preparatory reading. Notes from lectures and seminars form the basis of a student's understanding. This knowledge is developed in more depth through independent study.

Guidance on the Enforceability of Classroom Policies and Practices Below are some basic legal guidelines to help faculty determine whether their classroom policies are legally enforceable or supportable. These guidelines are not intended to be comprehensive, but they should serve as a good starting point for faculty to "test" policies before they implement them. Generally, the answer to the question, "is this classroom policy enforceable?" will be either
"Yes, if . . ." or "No, unless . . ." the policy or practice imposed by the faculty member

Effective Learning and Teaching in Scottish Secondary Schools: Guidance
This chapter describes provision for guidance in terms of staffing, time allocations, accommodation and resources, and analyses the effectiveness of various arrangements and structures. Within the context of guidance as a whole-school responsibility, specific reference is made to aspects of "first level" guidance and to the importance of close links between guidance and learning support. Staffing and time allocations for guidance staff The Structure of Promoted Posts in Secondary Schools in Scotland allowed for the establishment of approximately one promoted post in guidance for every 150-200 pupils. Educational statistics and inspections in recent years confirm that, on the whole, this recommendation continues to be implemented across the country.
  • the complement of guidance staff (principal teachers and assistant principal teachers) is consistently held at a level which efficiently and effectively meets the needs of the school and its pupils; any vacancies are filled promptly so that disruption in the provision of guidance for individual pupils is kept to a minimum;
