Revised 2nd Edition with new photographs and page design This book is about a special place and a special people, a cluster of islands and their inhabitants who had the intelligence and strength of character to retain their identities and preserve their independence through countless years of conflict and rivalry between their neighbours. The Channel Island communities have had the foresight to be selective in their utilisation of twentieth century developments, placing the preservation of beauty and the natural environment above short-term gain. There is no place on earth like the Channel Islands, and to appreciate their full splendour and diversity, the islands of the Bailiwick of Guernsey should be your first ports of call!
