An English Grammar Preface Introduction Nouns Pronouns ... Prepositions PREFACE. Of making many English grammars there is no end; nor should there be till theoretical scholarship and actual practice are more happily wedded. In this field much valuable work has already been accomplished; but it has been done largely by workers accustomed to take the scholar's point of view, and their writings are addressed rather to trained minds than to immature learners. To find an advanced grammar unencumbered with hard words, abstruse thoughts, and difficult principles, is not altogether an easy matter. These things enhance the difficulty which an ordinary youth experiences in grasping and assimilating the facts of grammar, and create a distaste for the study. It is therefore the leading object of this book to be both as scholarly and as practical as possible. In it there is an attempt to present grammatical facts as simply, and to lead the student to assimilate them as thoroughly, as possible, and at the same time to do away with confusing difficulties as far as may be. Once there, you would lay claim to an entire table so you could lay out encyclopedias, dictionaries, English books to help with punctuation and sentence structure. Now, term papers and writing assignments are as easy as turning on your computer. With a good word processor and a connection to the Internet, an A on your homework or a job promotion for your presentation is only a keystroke away. T he Internet can be a wonderful source of information for anyone who is looking for help with English or in writing letters, stories or essays. Of course, the best idea is to go straight to a search engine such as Infoseek, Yahoo or Alta Vista for help. A large number of the sites related to grammar are linked to each other. Everything is available on the Internet; grammar rules and examples of each; colleges that contain lessons and tests; explanations of punctuation rules and sites that merely 'talk' about the English language and the rules governing it. There are even sites that have all of the above. I have attempted to find a large sampling of the previously mentioned web sites that deal with grammar, punctuation, and writing.

    Studying Tips For Students

The main issue in learning a foreign language is retaining vocabulary and grammar and using them when needed. The following tips are meant to help you prepare for lessons and study for quizzes, and ultimately retain vocabulary and grammar. The tips below follow the progression of any lesson in al-kitaab
    1. Vocabulary Preparation: Step 1:
Listen to the tape while looking at the list of new vocabulary. Repeat words as many times as possible for pronunciation practice. Step 2: Circle useful and most common words. This will help you reduce the amount of vocabulary you have to learn. Step 3: Do the vocabulary drill assigned as homework. The drill will help you practice using the new words. Step 4: Listen to the main dialogue/piece once. Listen a second time and repeat aloud. Step 5: Listen a third time and fill in the blanks in the text. Step 6: Read the completed text with the tape.
