Statement A practicing artist of 30 years, I have painted on various surfaces to achieve my visual expression. Since 1989 I have worked solely on glass, developing the skills necessary to accomplish this end. The glass vessel is my canvas today and my work explores a fusion of traditional and modern myths with personal beliefs, symbolising the invisible ties and restraints which cultural and traditional practices and superstitions can exert on successive generations of women.
Direction A search for simplification of technique and the compositional compatibility of glass with enamel colour, while retaining the qualities unique to glass, is ongoing. The content of my visual expression continues to expand in the series 'Golden Traditions'.
Training As both artist and teacher, I have worked in many areas of craft-art, in Australia, the United States and Japan. Fabric, painting, colour and design, formal education Meadowbank TAFE 1979-1981. Art Certificate, painting, Sydney College of the Arts, 1989-1991. Bachelor of Arts, Glass, University of Sydney.

Other Projects This month's EBSQ Live: EFFECTIVE LOGO DESIGN For Artists and Craftspeople hosted by EBSQ Self-Representing Artists and Lauren Cole Abrams Monday, 12 September, at 9pm Eastern (6pm Pacific) EBSQ Chat Room Self-Portrait by Lauren Cole Abrams Your logo is often the first impression you make on potential galleries and patrons. So it's really important that it says what you want it to about you and your work. That's not as difficult as it may seem, but there are a few tried and true essentials that you need to be aware of in designing your own. If you are thinking about designing your logo, or would like to update your existing one, I will demonstrate some simple strategies for creating a successful logo that will help take the mystery out of how to go about it. As a graphic artist, I designed many logos. This will focus on layout and design, choosing a typeface and ways to customize it, introducing graphics besides a font and how to put it all together so it looks good on everything from a small black and white ad to a billboard! As my most of my design work was done pre-computer, no computer skills are necessary. This is all about what to do. How you choose to execute it is up to you.

S tained glass is an art form using colored glass that permits light to pass through it instead of drawing on or coloring a surface that reflects light. It is set apart from nearly all other arts in two dimensions. Ordinarily, designs are made from glass panes of different colors, held in place by narrow lead strips and enclosed in a metal framework. The only known stained glass artist in the country, Melanie Holmes of San Pedro Town, studied and practiced this art in her native Canada for more than 20 years before making Belize her home. A pharmacist by profession, Melanie was introduced to this art in 1979 by a friend who convinced her to take a stained glass course. When she moved to Belize in 1998, this hobby progressed into a potential second source of income. Since then, her skills have been requested by several private individuals and businesses as well as by a patron for St. Joseph's Parish in Belize City. The use of colored glass for filling windows dates from Roman times, when blown glass, which can be made very thin, began to replace molded glass for many purposes. The technique now known as stained glass is an invention of the 9
