A vibrant art medium Stained glass is an extraordinary and vibrant medium for creating significant art, which can enrich personal and family living space as well as work and public places. used creatively In my work, I aim to create a subtlety and feeling of depth that is uncommon in this artform. This is why most people (including other stained glass artists) remark that they have never seen stained glass work like it. in personal artwork Each piece is made for a specific location and takes account of the sensibilities of the owner. As the hours and seasons progress, the light changes and the stained glass window responds - there is always something new to find in it. I enjoy meeting with people to discuss ideas for commissions, without obligation. Please call or email me: Robert Oddy (315) 446-0279

Latest News: Steve Immerman nominated as Commissioned Artist for the 2005 Wisconsin "Governor's Award in Support of the Arts"
Each year the Wisconsin Foundation for the Arts organizes the Governor's Awards in Support of the Arts recognizing extraordinary contributions to the vitality of the arts in local communities or statewide. The awards are in three categories: individual leaders, corporations or businesses, and community organizations. A total of four awards are presented in a late fall ceremony at the Executive Residence in Madison.
Governor Jim Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle personally host the recognition. The recipients receive a personal framed citation highlighting their gifts to the arts that is signed by the Governor. They also receive a gift of original art created by a Wisconsin artist.
The Governor's Award ceremony, which will be in November 2005, includes an elegant video illustrating recipients' gifts to the arts, along with a detailed segment on the commissioned artist. A tape of the event is created and then aired around the holidays on Wisconsin commercial and public television stations. A feature story on the commissioned artist appears in the fall Arts Letter, of the Wisconsin Foundation for the Arts.
More than 125 individuals, businesses, and organizations whose contributions to Wisconsin's cultural life deserve recognition have been honored since the Governor's Awards were first presented in 1980.

Welcome to www. hot glass heilman.com -
An On-Line Gallery of Hot Glass Sculptures and Blown Glass Vessels.
In Portland, Maine, at my hot glass studio and art glass gallery, you can watch me using a centuries-old hand blowing glass techniques to create aquariums and floral art glass designs, which appear to be in suspended animation. My glass work process involves traditional lamp working and murrini techniques. I make hand-pulled glass rods and glass canes in a variety of colors and then, use them to create the glass design elements inside each glass sculpture. Layering each piece of glass in the design - from the inside out - allows me to sculpt three-dimensional underwater seascapes and gardenscapes in glass. Finally, I encase the interior glass scene in clear, molten crystal. One of my fondest glass making career highlights includes the presentation of one of my pieces to Jacques Ives Cousteau as a "Spirit and Enrichment Award" by the Atlantic Center for the Arts (1991). You can find examples of my glass in museums in the United States, at

The exhibition which this display documents was a long time in the planning. Many people helped with the work involved. In 1979-80, a group of graduate students in the Department of the History of Art and the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archaeology participated in an introductory study unit with me a learning experience which did much to bring ideas for the exhibition into focus. The members of this group were Mary Ann Eaverly, Julia Eisendrath, Lauren Arnold, Nick Stavrinides, and Ann van Rosevelt. Julia Eisendrath continued on to devote much time and thought to a meticulous inventory of the glass collections in the Museum. This was a laborious project, essential to the efficient production of the exhibition. Two graduate students arrived fresh on the scene in 1981-82: Victoria Weston (History of Art and Japanese Studies) and Laurie McCoy (Classical Art and Archaeology). I am most grateful to them for their cheerful industriousness through a long winter of snowy forays to the Graduate Library. Laurie McCoy saw the project through to its completion, collaborating with me on research. In addition, Prof. John D'Arms, Ms. Norma Jenkins (Research Librarian at the Corning Museum of Glass), Dr. Aileen Gatten, and Prof. Charles Witke have provided indispensable help on specific scholarly problems from the topography of Puteoli, to Sino-Roman relations in antiquity and obscure Chinese rhapsodists, to vexing questions of mirrors and metaphors, Isidorus, and Alexander's glass submarine.

PATTERNS ON GLASS
In my jewelry dinnerware lighting fixtures window panels , and sculptures , I use various techniques to create patterns on glass
Tiles - enamels fired on glass top "Calligraphy" mid "Japanese Fish" bottom "Dragonflies" Tabletop Lamp - Rust Maize Pattern 11" x 7" x 4" Curved copper lamp with patina, enamels fired on glass panel. Most frequently I apply powdered glass enamels onto clear glass sheets using silk screen and stencil techniques, then fire the glass in a kiln. Like a ceramic glaze, the enamel design is permanently bonded to the underlying form during the firing and forms a durable, waterproof finish. After firing a glass sheet, I sometimes cut, rearrange, and overlaps images to create new patterns. Fired to 1500 degrees, the glass layers fuse, creating jewel-like intensity and depth. commissioned work incorporating family photographs and corporate logos among other custom designs.

Dennis James interview
Dennis James discusses his career, his current CD, and working with Linda Ronstadt
interviewed by Rich Bailey
January 2002
It was with great fortune and delight that I had the opportunity to interview Dennis James for his new CD “Cristal: Glass Music Through the Ages” (available on Sony Classical) This album was produced by Linda Ronstadt, who also performs on the album herself. In this welcome and highly anticipated release we hear the fruit of her long held passion for this music. In this interview James discusses various aspects of his history with Glass music and his work with Linda. I found him to be a fascinating man with a passion for history as well as the instruments he plays. He also discusses the difficulties he encountered in his quest, and the techniques used to produce this music. He offers interesting insights into how Linda herself works and tells how two people from completely different musical worlds came together. Rich Bailey
Rich Bailey: I read a few articles about you in preparation for this interview. What I found initially fascinating was the quest for these instruments. You seem to have a dual mind; one of a musician and that of a collector. True? Dennis James: Yes, that is the exact crossover category I fall into quite happily in all of my endeavors, be they in music or just daily living. I seem to be inspired from both directions you mention: objects and their use. For an example of “object- to-use”: I bought a lovely antique brass Victorian bird cage that I admired as an aesthetic object . Since I have a shall-we-say intimate relationship to Mozart via his glass compositions, I thought I'd sort of do an "homage d'" by using it to house a live canary; as did Mozart. There is some thought, though, that this pet bird Mozart was so fond of (and that he missed greatly during his travels and for which he wrote one of his most affecting compositional laments in tribute upon its death) may have been a starling, but no matter here.

We aim to provide all the information a UK glass painter could need, both on this site directly and by providing links to a wealth of other UK sites with relevant information. We welcome input from other interested people, please feel free to share ideas on the Forum which is kindly looked after by craftville.com or suggest new links and contribute to the gallery. Any suggestions can be sent via e-mail The site contains information for everyone, from the complete beginner to the professional. We hope it might even encourage more to take it up :-) Glass Painting is currently one of the fastest growing crafts in the UK. You will find stands selling finished glass items at most of the larger craft fairs and there are a growing number of companies supplying the materials, paints and outliners needed in this craft. This site has links to both craft workers and companies. It will even be running a series of "tutorials" on the basic skills needed by the complete beginner. Whilst this site will remain mainly a U.K. based one, we have started to accept submissions to the gallery from those living outside of the U.K., mainly due to the high standard of some of the work submitted. We will however remain a site about the type glasspainting using paints which DON'T have to be fired in a kiln, therefore making it available to just about everyone who who like a go.

Seams Like Glass Designs is an idea of Lise Merchant, a stained glass artist, who has lived in the Yukon for 20 years. The idea of blending her earlier love of sewing and working with cloth with her stained glass designs took shape when she mentioned the idea to friend, an experienced quilter and quilt shop owner. She discovered that the two passions blend and compliment each other very well. Lise began her stained glass career under the influence of the northern landscape and extraordinary northern lifestyle. The unique images are now available to create fabric wall hangings by using reverse appliqué and machine quilting techniques.
Discover the beauty of the north, the art of Lise Merchant, and the joy of creating. New for 2005!
