The Air Scouts are a branch within the scouting organisation that focus on air related activities. Currently there are approximately 150 Air Scout Groups or Units active in the UK, with just under 60 having been recognised by the Royal Air Force under an agreement between The Scout Association and the M.O.D. The Air Scout groups form part of the usual Group and District structure. The age ranges are the same as for the scouts so there are units to suit all ages from 8 to 25. It is also possible to have an Air Scout Patrol within a "normal" group. The units do mainstream scouting awards and activities as well as specialist air badges and activities. To find out more information check out the air scouts page on the Scout Base website. http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/activity/airscout

A further, significant chapter answers the question 'is scouting a military movement?' Baden Powell, R. S. S. (1908) Scouting for Boys. The Scout Association became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1933. The Girl Guides of Liechtenstein became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1952. At the end of World War II, Rangers and Rovers helped in refugee camps. In 1953 the World Scout Conference took place in Vaduz and for this reason, a special scout stamp was published. A first-aid-group for Scouts and Guides was founded in 1973. The Scouts and Guides have had their own shop since 1976 and in 1979, they started publishing a bimonthly magazine for leaders, which is called "KNOTEN". Co-operation between the Scout and the Guide Associations has increased since 1981, when joint activities were organized to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Scout Movement in Liechtenstein. In 1989, the two Associations merged and its official name now is "Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Liechtensteins". HSH Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein and his sister, HSH Princess Nora are Honorary Members of the Movement.
Among the main events in the scouting year are the annual summer camps, winter camps and various activities for all branches at national level.

Scouting was officially founded in India in 1909, shortly after its founding in the United Kingdom. Scouting first started at the Bishop Cotton’s Boys School in Bangalore. In 1916, a Cub section was started, followed by the Rover section in 1918. Scouting for native Indians was started by V.V.N.Bose, Madanmohan Malvia, Hridyanath Kunju, Dr.Annie Beasant and G.S.Arundale, in 1913. Prior to this date, Scouting was only for British and foreign Scouts. The Bharat Scouts and Guides was officially formed on November 7, 1950 and Scout activities began on August 18,1951. Prior to the Bharat Scouts and Guides, there were several Scout Associations operating in India. In 1909, Indians were not permitted to join Scouting. Only the British were allowed to be Scouts. They started a Scout organization named, "the Boy Scouts of India". Later, Indians were given permission to start Scouting. They formed an organization of their own named, "Hindustan Scouts". The Girl Guides had an organization of their own named, "Girl Guides of India." After India’s independence, The Bharat Scouts and Guides was formed. The Bharat Scouts and Guides became a member of the World Bureau (WOSM) in 1938.

WaterAid has, in the past, benefited from the support of many Scout and Cub groups from the UK involving fundraising from all manner of activities such as sponsored washes and water carries. With the support of Scout groups across the USA we can help make much more of a difference to the many people still without access to a clean, safe water supply and adequate sanitation. Cubs and Scouts can not only raise funds but use the opportunity to learn about the problems that young people face in the developing world in terms of water supply. Anyone who has had to carry a jerry can full of water when away on camp will know just how hard work it can be. Carrying loads of up to 20kg for miles at a time is a sad reality for children in the countries where WaterAid works. By supporting WaterAid Cubs and Scouts around the world can make a real difference to the lives of children elsewhere. If your pack or troop is interested in supporting WaterAid we would be delighted to hear from you. WaterAid has numerous materials, to help with any fundraising activities as well as lots of fun ideas. Why not visit our  fundraising resources pages  and have a look.
