It owns all the PBS and NPR stations in Georgia except WPBA in Atlanta It began in when the University of Georgia signed on WGTV, Georgia's second public television station. From to , the state Board of Education opened eight stations across the state. In 1965, the university and the board merged their efforts as Georgia Educational Television. It became Georgia Public Television in , a year after authority for the stations was transferred to the Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission.
