Finite Geometry Web
Here is a collection of links to finite geometry resources on the web. There are a good many such things, but they are scattered and I would like to have a single starting point for finding them. Similar information pertaining to a rather more general area is available at The World Combinatorics Exchange . Also take a look at the Coding Theory Web , which is created and maintained by John Kerl While I keep these pages for my own benefit, it would be great if this collection could be useful for others, too. With that in mind, if you know of anyone (including yourself!) who has something - notes, conference web page, personal home page, whatever - to which there should be a link here but there isn't, please let me know. I'd also be happy to hear any suggestions and to be informed of any broken links that you might find. You can email me at aoffer@cage.ugent.be This page is inspired by the Number Theory Web , created and maintained by Keith Matthews

Lewis, Aamir Husain ANS Store: Purchase Article A general methodology was developed to estimate geometry factors for internal gamma dose rate calculations within a cylindrical radioactive waste container. In particular, an average geometry factor is needed to calculate the average energy deposition rate within the container for determination of the internal gas generation rate. Such a calculation is required in order to assess the potential for radioactive waste packages to radiolytically generate combustible gases. This work therefore provides a method for estimating the point and average geometry factors for internal dose assessment for a cylindrical geometry. This analysis is compared to other results where it is shown that the classical work of Hine and Brownell do not correspond to the average geometry factors for a cylindrical body but rather to values at the center of its top or bottom end. The current treatment was further developed into a prototype computer code (PC-CAGE) that calculates the geometry factors numerically for a cylindrical body of any size and material, accounting both for gamma absorption and buildup effects. • J. O'Rourke. Computational Geometry in C. Cambridge U. Press, 1993.
A good undergraduate text (Joe O'Rourke teaches at Smith College and wrote the text for his senior class). Of necessity limited in scope and more oriented toward presenting interesting ideas and geometric structures than toward algorithms for computational geometry. Very well written and presented.
    • K. Mulmuley. Computational Geometry: An Introduction Through Randomized Algorithms . Prentice-Hall. Unfortunately out of print. Not particularly well written, but by far the best presentation of randomization anywhere. Very detailed discussion of semidynamic and dynamic algorithms. More advanced and more specialized than the text of de Berg et al.
    • F. Preparata and I. Shamos. Computational Geometry . Springer Verlag.
Somewhat dated; the first text on the topic; several chapters are much too dense for what they have to say and others present a very complex approach where we now know of simple ones.
