Applied Geology Research Projects (assorted)
Current Research Projects of the Working Group W. Pohl
Our research and teaching cover a field which may be described as a triangle between Mining Geology, Engineering Geology, and the Mining Environment. Typical fields of activity concern the technical environment in producing mines, mine closure and rehabilitation, in restoring abandoned minesites, and in the construction industry. Our special interest is in geological risk evaluation and mitigation, and in sustainable development. We have had projects in various European countries, and have special expertise in Northern, Central and Eastern Africa. "Groundwater flow modelling and the migration of radionuclides"

DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES - CURRENT RESEARCH
This information source is currently under construction. Watch for our improvements! Faculty, staff, and students in Department of Geological Sciences at CSULB are engaged in a variety of Earth science research projects, many of them centered in the western United States. We are fortunate to have strong equipment holdings, particularly in exploration geophysics and organic geochemistry, that allow department personnel to pursue cutting-edge research. We are actively collaborating with colleagues at the United States Geological Survey, California Institute of Technology, California State University at Northridge, Irvine Valley College, Long Beach City College, California State University at Fullerton, San Diego State University, University of Southern California, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and several others.
We have fun learning about the Earth together.
LATE BREAKING NEWS!
In 1995, the Department of Geological Sciences, with funding from the National Science Foundation and the generous support of the College of Natural Sciences and the University, began construction on a NEW geochemistry laboratory. This facility is due to be completed by the fall of 1996.
RESEARCH RESOURCES
  • Marine Geophysics high resolution seismic reflection system
    side-scan sonar mapping system
    proton precession magnetometer
note: all of these pieces of equipment are designed to be used on the R/V Yellowfin, part of the facilities associated with the Southern California Ocean Studies Consortium
