Phytophthora Genome Initiative (PGI)
The genus Phytophthora comprises approximately 60 species. All of these are destructive pathogens, causing rots of roots, stems, leaves and fruits of a huge range of agriculturally and ornamentally important plant hosts. Some species of Phytophthora, such as P. cinnamomi, P. parasitica and P. cactorum, attack hundreds of different plant host species. Some of the crops with the most important dollar losses to Phytophthora species include potato, soybean, tomato, alfalfa, tobacco, peppers, cucurbits, pineapple, strawberry, raspberry and a wide range of perennial tree crops, especially citrus, avocado, almonds, walnuts, apples and cocoa. The ornamental, nursery and forestry industries are also heavily affected.

NASC Ensembl Genome Browser About Arabidopsis Ensembl Arabidopsis Ensembl is a genome browser for the commonly studied plant model organism Arabidopsis thaliana . It is curated by NASC, the European Arabidopsis stock centre , which also holds the worldwide collection of Arabidopsis lines. Click on either the TIGR or the MIPS assembly on the right to get started. About Ensembl Ensembl is a joint project between EMBL - EBI and the Sanger Centre to develop a software system which produces and maintains automatic annotation on eukaryotic genomes. Ensembl is primarily funded by the Wellcome Trust . Access to all the data produced by the project, and to the software used to analyse and present it, is provided free and without constraints.

The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) integrates animal and plant map and genome data from a variety of sources and makes it available to the scientific public as interactive web resources, as well as organized releases of bulk data for FTP. Access to genomic information is supported by several resources including Entrez Gene , the reference sequence (RefSeq) collection, organism-specific pages such as Plant Genomes Central and Chicken Genome Resources , and the Map Viewer . These resources are extensively cross-linked and facilitate navigation across a broad spectrum of biological information.
The NCBI Map Viewer resource provides displays of physical and genetic maps generated by research groups, cross-links the data using common markers, and correlates maps to sequences and genes when assembled genome sequence, sequence-based primers, ESTs, cDNAs, or BAC end sequences are also available ( Example 1 Example 2 ). By placing such integrated resources for many organisms into a single system, NCBI can also offer comparative views of maps and sequences, encouraging the published work on the genes of one organism to inform scientists working on another organism.

We wish to describe the recent additions to the plant genomics resources available through the NCBI Web site Plant Genomes Central at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/PLANTS/PlantList.html. The additions are new organisms, new maps for existing organisms, new resources for plant bioinformatics and the NCBI rice genome assembly.
The new organism is Triticum monococcum - a diploid wheat closely related to the progenitor of the A genome of Triticum aestivum.
The organisms with new maps are barley, corn, rice, sorghum, tomato and wheat.
The new resources are files of BES in FASTA format available from the FTP site. These files are updated weekly.
NCBI has assembled into contigs those GenBank accessions of BAC sequence prepared by IRGSP and labelled 'FINISHED'. The assembled materials are annotated with the IRGSP annotations. These assemblies are available from GenBank.
The goal of the NCBI effort is to prepare a framework for those plants currently with only genetic maps but where chromosome sequence or transcriptome sequence is anticipated within the next five years - i.e. barley, corn
