The human locus and allele nomenclature outlined by Shows et al. (1987) will be adopted. Thus, present standard nomenclature will be converted to the new nomenclature and the new nomenclature used for naming any new identified genes. The new terminology will be much more adaptable for use in computer databases, and will appear as entered on non-graphics screens, except for italics. The Somes nomenclature should be directly convertible to the new nomenclature in many cases by the Resource Panel appointed by the Nomenclature Committee. All new names should be reviewed for duplication and standard nomenclature.

Chickens - Special Tropics Hot Weather Management of Poultry
Hot weather can have a severe impact on poultry performance. Production efficiency can be affected long before the temperature reaches a level at which survival becomes a concern. Table 1 is a general guide to the reaction of adult poultry to various temperatures. Heat stress begins when the ambient temperature climbs above 80oF and is readily apparent above 85oF. When a bird begins to pant, physiological changes have already started within its body to dissipate excess heat. Even before the bird reaches this point, anything that you do to help birds remain comfortable will help maintain optimum growth rates, hatchability, egg size, egg shell quality, and egg production.

Cancerlit Cancerlit is a searchable database of the US National Cancer Institute which contains more than 1.4 million citations and abstracts from over 4000 different sources including biomedical journals, proceedings, books, reports, and doctoral theses. Centre for Innovation in Primary Care The Centre for Innovation in Primary Care (CIPC), based in Sheffield, has two aims: to help busy clinicians and managers in primary care develop innovative solutions to the problems they face; and to increase the innovatory capacity of primary health and social care. The website provides an online library resource, with a search facility: CIPC services and tools are designed to help busy professionals develop their capacity to effectively deliver change and innovation across Primary Care Groups and Trusts and can provide practical help with: improved access to primary care services; horizon scanning; evaluation; collaboration and partnership working; action learning sets; one to one guidance; facilitated shadowing exercises and seminars. ... This website provides information about short courses and training programmes for both new and experienced researchers. There is access to a useful and informative newsletter, along with links to the website TRIAGE, established by the Trent Institute, which contains a wide range of resources relating to research, such as literature searching, systematic reviews, ethics, clinical effectiveness, tutorials for SPSS, Excel and Word, an introductory guide to NUD*IST, discussion groups, and electronic journals.

http://www.uvm.edu/~cgep/ResourceCenter/Disease.html
Most diseases have a genetic component, whether inherited or resulting from the body's response to environmental stresses. The genetic basis for many diseases and syndromes have already been elucidated and many more will soon be identified as a result of the Human Genome Project. Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man
This extensive catalog of human genes and genetic disorders contains over 10,000 entries. This database includes clinical features, inheritance, genetics, pictures, and reference information. Office of Genetics and Disease Prevention
This site, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control, provides information on the impact of human genetic research and the Human Genome Project on public health and disease prevention. Access to numerous genetic publications (with a special focus on epidemiological research) can also be found at this site. Genetic Alliance
This non-profit organization is a coalition of consumers, professionals, and support groups. It's a great resource for finding a support group; you can search by genetic condition, organization name, or services offered. Also publishes a newsletter and has links to other genetic resources. It also briefly discusses why biological diversity is important, especially the value of its components and diversity itself.
    INTRODUCTION
Welcome to this new series of occasional papers on Australia's biodiversity. The series intends, for the first time, to collate and make available information relating to all aspects of the conservation of Australia's biodiversity - why it is globally significant, the conservation status of its components, threatening processes, current levels of knowledge, and the adequacy of conservation measures. In addition the series will also include results from selected projects undertaken on behalf of the Buiodiversity Unit.
