March 21, 2005 I have completed the indexes as far as I can at this time. The condition of the next couple of volumes of the Vermont Chronicle are in poor shape and I cannot photograph them without irrepairably damaging the papers. The years 1826 - 1882 are online. The years 1867 - 1874 had many editions missing, so those years are far from being complete listings. All other years are fairly complete, with only an odd edition missing here or there. Thanks for your patience while I plodded my way through this project, and for you interest in my notices. Watch here for future projects! I provide research services for Vermont and the surrounding area, click here to get more information. Click here for other items available, I will be adding more as I complete them. I also offer booklets with Abstracts of the Marriage and Death notices for the years 1826 - 1841. See explanation below or contact me at: SRW7655@aol.com The Vermont Chronicle In 1999 I began the task of transcribing abstracts of the marriage and death notices from the VERMONT CHRONICLE. The CHRONICLE was published weekly in Bellows Falls, Windsor and Montpelier Vermont from 1826 to 1898. I will be including all the notices I can, but some year's newspapers were missing from the collection, others were in just too poor shape to handle. Although the information contained in the newspaper's postings is sparse, I felt it would still be valuable to researchers whose ancestors hailed from Vermont and the surrounding areas.

    Vital Records
    Overview
Vital records document births, marriages and deaths. They are maintained by governmental agencies and are used as primary sources in genealogical research. The researcher should be aware that recording, particularly of births and deaths, was very incomplete. Although Wisconsin law required counties to register these events since 1852, only a limited number were actually recorded by the counties before 30 September 1907.
    Search Strategies
Vital records were maintained at the state and/or county level. The Society owns state level vital records. The researcher should also check the appropriate county courthouse for possible additional birth, marriage and death records. One of the most important details about a birth, marriage or death record is the informant. This person varies and, therefore, the accuracy of the information varies. A parent may give the information on their child's birth record. A bride or groom will usually provide the information for the marriage record and the widow or nearest family member may give information on a death record. It is also possible for non-related persons to give information on any and all of these types of records. Many records will provide the name of the informant toward the bottom of the form.
    What the Society Owns
    Pre-1907
The Society Library holds microfilm of the births, marriages, and deaths recorded in Wisconsin at the state level before October 1, 1907. These records on microfilm are arranged by county and by date of registration. They are not filmed by the date of the event. Therefore, it is necessary to use the indexes first.

About the author In this article, ASCL refers to Albuquerque's Special Collections Library. BIRTH AND DEATH RECORDS: New Mexico birth and death records began to be officially maintained in 1920, although some scattered records exist dating back into the 1880s. Prior to 1919, birth and death records were created by various institutions, including counties and churches. New Mexico vital records (birth and death) are restricted records and are only issued to immediate family members or others demonstrating a "tangible legal interest." Birth records are closed for 100 years, and death records for 50 years. You may make a request for certified copies of birth or death certificates either

This system contains birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce/annulment and burial records. The Vital Records System, led by the Department of Health, has 64 local Registers of Deeds, which have helped to build and maintain the system. In general, the State and County offices each hold a set of standard birth, death and marriage records. In some instances however, County offices have records prior to the creation of the Vital Records System. These exceptions are listed on each county page. Birth Records Death Records Marriage Records

    Introduction
Records in the New York State Archives document functions and activities of State government; none of the records were created for the purpose of genealogical research. However, the Archives does hold many records containing information on individuals. Among these records are indexes to vital records (births, marriages, deaths); records documenting war service (Revolutionary War through World War I); land records (mostly transactions involving the Colony or State of New York); trial court records (including colonial wills and early nineteenth century civil cases); and records of some State-run correctional and custodial institutions. This leaflet provides introductory, summary information on the record series in the New York State Archives that are most useful for genealogical research. (A "record series" is a group of files or documents maintained together because they relate to the same function or activity.) In some series information about individuals is accessible through an index or alphabetical arrangement. Many other series lack indexes, making searches difficult. Series titles and numbers are indicated in

Frequently Asked Questions About Texas Vital Statistics Indexes
What records are available in the Genealogy Collection?
The Genealogy Collection has indexes to some Texas births, deaths, marriages and divorces but it does not have the actual certificates.
What information will I find in an index?
Entries are arranged alphabetically by name and provide the date of the event, the county in which the event occurred, and often the certificate file number.
What birth indexes are available in the Genealogy Collection?
The collection includes birth indexes from 1903 through the most recent year available. There are also some delayed birth indexes that include births as early as 1880. There is one cumulative index for the years 1903 through 1909. Beginning with 1910, each year is indexed separately.
Why can't I find a birth record listed?
