OAS_AD('Top'); FROM IRELAND . . . . . . TO KENTUCKY Sons of Henry Connelly (who died in County Armagh, Northern Ireland) emigrated to America in the mid-1600's and landed at a settlement called Albemarle Point (near what is now Charleston, South Carolina). Their descendents migrated throughout the eastern part of the United States primarily into North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. My ancestor, Captain Henry Connelly (1752-1840), was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Captain Henry Connelly eventually settled in Floyd County, Kentucky. Many of his ancestors settled in eastern Kentucky (primarily Floyd, Morgan, Johnson and Magoffin counties) but I have found Conley's of this line from coast to coast. My original intent was to trace my direct line from Henry Connelly, however I have now expanded my research to include all of his descendents. Researching People
of the Civil War Era
Searching for a Louisiana Confederate
soldier's service record?
If you know the full name of the individual, look up the last name in Andrew B. Booth's Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers . This information was compiled from military service records now maintained by the National Archives. Once you learn the regiment and company in which the soldier served, look up a brief regimental history in Arthur W. Bergeron, Jr.'s Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units 1861-1865 (LSU Press, 1989). Both of these books are available in public libraries in Louisiana. From here, follow the advice below re: obtaining service and/or pension records.

Preparing for Your Research
Before we jump right into the research process, there are a few basic pointers that every new genealogist needs to know. The following guide was compiled for the novice, and only intended to give some direction for the general research of Civil War ancestors. Most researchers begin the long, arduous task of tracing their Civil War lineage with little more than a name and a family folk tale. If that sounds familiar, then you already learned the first lesson of genealogy:

Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians. >>> read more >>> The Journey To America During the mass emigration from Italy during the century between 1876 to 1976, the U.S. was the largest single recipient of Italian immigrants in the world. However, their impact was not as great as countries like Argentina and Brazil. That was due to the fact that hundreds of thousands of immigrants from nations all over the world were migrating to the U.S. at the same time and American born natives already made up the majority ethnic group. The Italians did play a major role though, socially with individuals rising to national stature in many different fields. >>> read more >>> Italian Naming Traditions and their Ramifications There has been a strong custom in Italy that determines how children are named.
