Publisher's Clearance Special Record Selection Table A guide to searching the right records. The table below can help you decide which records to search. It is most helpful for post-1800 research. Find your goal in the first column. In the second column, find the types of records that are likely to have the information you need. Additional records that may also be useful are listed in the third column. (The terms used in the second and third columns are the same as the subject headings used in the locality section of the Family History Library Catalog).
Records containing previous research (genealogy, biography, history, periodicals and societies) could provide information for nearly all the goals, but these have not been mentioned unless they are especially helpful for a particular goal. Reproduced with permission of the Family History Library.

He was in Kentucky as early as 1782. He moved to Ohio in 1815 and is buried on the land which he owned. The following Bible Records, which were donated by Mrs. John F. Feighny, a descendant of Jeremiah Frame, were obtained by her from Mrs. Wade Whitley of Paris, Kentucky. Mrs. Whitley originally secured them, as she states in the notarized statement, from Miss Faith Stewart, whose father, Thomas Stewart, owned the Bible. Thomas Stewart was the son of Rachel Frame (Silas, Jeremiah) and Joel S. Stewart (Steward). (See pp. 246-247, A Biographical History of Preble County, Ohio

Carter Family Genealogy The Carter Family CD This massive work contains some of the most important genealogy, historical, and cultural work ever compiled on the Carter family. This CD contains: The Descendants of Captain Thomas Carter 1652-1912. the source book for Carter research. To see a Carter Coat-of-Arms and discussion click here. New Origins:  The Thomas and John Carter Families of Corotoman .  Contains Carter family English history and their migration to America.  Also, new evidence suggests CPT Thomas Carter and COL John Carter (father of Robert 'King' Carter) are of the same family. This work synopsizes and analyzes for the first time the theories of Virginia Carter origins as written and studied by Christine Jones, Charles Warner, Virginia Kaufman, Currer-Briggs, Dr. Miller, and other historians and genealogists, along with original research, and offers conclusions. Click here to read a selected excerpt.
The Ancestors of Joseph Carter of Buckingham County Virginia and Bath and Morgan Counties Kentucky.  A controversial book casting doubt on previously accepted genealogical origins of one of Virginia's important 18th century Carter families, the Joseph (died 1751) and Catherine Carter family of Spotsylvania.  According to Elby Bowman, Joseph Carter was the son of William Carter of Middlesex County Virginia, rather than CPT Thomas Carter Jr. of Lancaster County Virginia.  A convincing, sophisticated argument and counter argument offered.  If he is correct, thousands of Carter descendants in America have a different ancestry than previously believed.  You read and be the judge.
