ALLEENE CEMETERY - Sad Report
I am sorry to report that from reading all the documents pertaining to this desecration of Alleene Cemetery there appears to be nothing that can be done to stop it since the trustees are not in favor of changing any of their actions and the legal system is not favoring those who are trying to protect it. The original setting up of the governing trustees gave the sitting trustees the right to choose their replacements, thereby eliminating input from those who have family buried there. Therefore, the trustees can do anything they want in the cemetery.
Let this be a warning to those of you who have given this much power to a similar governing body over your family cemetery. And BE WATCHFUL!!!!

Letters and personal accounts of events or eras are highly valued for the information they contain; but it is the family Bible that most often becomes the object of diligent searching. Should you be fortunate enough to possess a family Bible , the following techniques might help you to evaluate its usefulness as a source of information. First, note the date of its publication. Match the publication date against the span of events written upon the page for family history. If the handwritten entries predate the publication, it is clear indication that they were recorded not as they occurred but at a later date. Next, examine the handwriting used for each entry. Is it all in the same script, indicating that they were written by the same person? Are the entries in the same ink, suggesting that all were made at one sitting? Is there an inscription?

Welcome to the Knott County KyGenWeb site! We are Elva Morgan and Gloria Marcum, your County Coordinators. We encourage all of you to take part in preserving the history of our families in Knott County.
Knott County, the 118th county in order of formation, is located in the heart of the rugged mountains of eastern Kentucky. The county is bounded by Perry Breathitt Magoffin Floyd ... Pike , and Letcher counties, and covers an area of 352 square miles. It was formed from portions of Perry, Letcher, Floyd, and Breathitt counties in 1884. The county was named for Gov. James Proctor Knott (1883-87). The county seat is HINDMAN. Letcher County legislator Robert Bates helped to oversee the creation of the new county, which is the site of the headwaters of several major creeks that flow into either the Big Sandy or Kentucky rivers. Knott is the only Kentucky county that does not have a river within its boundaries or bordering it.

First Name: Middle: Last: Finding marriage places with Bible records Family Bibles often include family members' marriage places. Make sure that you have asked your family members whether or not they are aware of any old Bibles that are still in the family. When you find information in actual Bibles, check the publication date of the Bible. If the Bible was printed, for example, in 1871, but a marriage is recorded for 1851, you know that the date of that particular marriage was not written down at the time of the marriage, but was written down several years later. Dates recorded after the fact are less likely to be accurate. When you cannot find family Bibles records among your own family members, check with genealogical societies in the area where the family lived. They may have or be aware of the location of local Bible records. When you are searching for Bible records, be sure to look under both the maiden name and married name. Next, search through the transcribed Bible records belonging to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
