We have 24 full time faculty in the division. Currently, there are positions available for both clinical and research faculty at the Assistant and Associate Professor level. The Division staffs and manages endoscopy units and clinics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and the Nashville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Both a high risk obesity clinc and a malnutrition clinic are housed in the Vanderbilt Center for Human Nutrition. Division physicians also provide patient care in the multidiciplinary GERD clinic. Inpatient and outpatient services in GI are provided for VUMC and VAMC separately. The Liver Service covers both hospitals and is heavily involved in the VUMC liver transplant program. An active GI service is maintained at St. Thomas Hospital. The Division of Gastroenterology seeks a balance in its clinical and research activities. We strive for excellence and to become one of the top Gastroenterology Divisions in the Country. Our Web Site presents our faculty and their activities in more detail and we hope it will provide you with an accurate picture of our activities and interests.

PCSG: Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology
BACKGROUND AND AIMS OF THE SOCIETY
The PCSG was founded in 1985 to provide a network for general practitioners and others interested in all clinical, research and educational aspects of gastroenterological disorders and in particular their management in primary care. The Society has established links with the British Society of Gastroenterology and a number of other bodies. We aim to provide a general practice voice and perspective to policy makers and expert bodies.
PROMOTING RESEARCH ACTIVITIES IN GENERAL PRACTICE
The Society holds an annual scientific meeting and also a session at the annual British Society of Gastroenterology meeting where original papers are presented and issues concerning gastroenterology in primary care are discussed and debated. Since the bulk of patients with gastroenterological disorders are managed in primary care the Society is keen to promote research in a general practice setting. A small number of research grants are awarded for suitable projects

The Division of Gastroenterology is comprised of 13 full time faculty members, 6-9 fellows, and more than 35 ancillary staff. We provide consultative services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the VA Chicago Health Care System-Lakeside Division and run busy outpatient practices in the fields of gastroenterology and interventional endoscopy in the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation facility within Northwestern Memorial Hospital. These outpatient practices, directed by Dr Christian Stevoff, have in excess of 12,000 patient encounters per year. Clinical services offered by the division are state-of-the-art covering the broad spectrum of the subspecialty. The endoscopy lab of Northwestern Memorial Hospital is directed by Dr Michael Jones and encompasses 10 procedure rooms and a physiology laboratory for esophageal, gastric, and intestinal motility studies. As the founder of that manometry laboratory, I have nurtured its development over the years and am proud of its current stature as one of the premier clinical and research facilities of its kind in the country. The interventional endoscopy service is widely recognized for expertise in ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, and palliative cancer treatments with endoluminal stents and is one of the busiest in the country. The clinical nutrition service, organized by Dr Alan Buchman, manages a large inpatient nutritional support service.
