Three articles recently published in the Wall Street Journal included incomplete, misleading or inaccurate information on the relative benefits of colonoscopy and other modes of colorectal cancer screening. ACG decided that, in light of the source of these stories, Letters to the Editors were warranted to clarify and correct the information. The College also offered to meet with the Editors to explain in greater detail the evidence with respect to the value of colon cancer screening in general and colonoscopy in particular. Proteolysis-inducing factor and pancreatic tumours
BMC Gastroenterology Proteolysis-inducing factor, a tumour product which is excreted in the urine of some patients with gastrointestinal tumours, cannot be used as a marker to discriminate benign from malignant pancreatic masses.
Clinicians' interpretation of gastrointestinal symptoms
BMC Gastroenterology Clinicians' management strategies vary when presented with the same simulated case histories of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms; this highlights the need for more efficient communication of published research if clinicians are to implement evidence-based care effectively.
