Casper, Wyoming Gardening CST News Wyoming Tour Job Quest ... Radish - Watermelon Gardening ... by Fred Jacquot Welcome to the Star-Tribune garden pages. I have been an active adult gardener in the Casper area now for over 30 years. Back when I first started no one could tell a beginner what kind of carrots or tomatoes grew best here. Because I have been taking notes all these years, you can find out what plants do best in Wyoming on the 'vegetable varieties' pages, whose links are above. Along with my partners Mark McAtee and Paul Combe I have done a lot of experimenting and research. You can find the results of this activity on these many pages. Please click on the links and start viewing our work. I think you will find that there is a huge amount of information available here for you. Enjoy! Below are a few links to some nice garden sites. 'Best of the Catalogs' article. Enjoy! National Gardening Vegetables Here is a link to Garden Guides! Rocky Mountain Garden Forum ... Garden Humor September 8, 2005 FAILURES IN 2005: Our biggest failure this year was the sweet corn. It was so cold in June that we did not get germination. Also, we planted in mounds or hills. This kept the water off the seed and it did not get enough water for germination. These two factors combined to give us a real disappointment. Another big disappointment was the Heavyweight bush bean from Burpee. It simply did not germinate in our cold June temperatures. We replanted with Top Crop bush bean and we have been eating beans from these plants. I would count Old German and Black Krim tomatoes as failures due to lack of June heat.

73. Edible Landscaping & Gardening (Fruit, Nut, Vegetable, Herb)
index of edible perennial plants, both common and uncommon, including fruits, nuts, vegetables and herbs.
http://www.efn.org/~bsharvy/edible.html
Plant Descriptions, Cultivation Tips, Lore, Trivia, Cultivars
by Ben Sharvy "God Almighty first planted a garden. And indeed it is the purest of human pleasures."
Francis Bacon This database lists every perennial plant that is worth growing for the sake of its produce, and that is hardy in at least 3 USDA hardiness zones; it also contains a selection of the most popular perennial herbs. Every plant listed here will survive temperatures down to at least 15 F without special care, and to at least 10 F with special care. Update. You can get all this and more as a Macintosh application, for only $15. The application comes with images for every plant (except the dandelion!), and the average image quality is higher than at the Web site (the photo for pineapple guavais typical). I might convert the photos to a cross-platform format upon request. There is a full-featured search engine, so that you can select only those plants that, say, will grow in zone 4, do not reject soggy soil, and attract birds. More info.

79. Cultivating Canadian Gardens: The History Of Gardening In Canada
Exhibition of books, periodicals and printed materials showing the development and history of gardening in Canada.

Introduction
Perhaps no other activity has grown so exponentially in recent decades in this country as has gardening. Classified as a leisure activity (although leisure seems hardly the right adjective!), Statistics Canada puts it at the top of the list with more than 80% of adult Canadians claiming to garden to some extent. All signs indicate that this passion for gardening will only increase in the future. Whether "gardening" means tending a spindly house plant struggling to survive in the dark winter days of a downtown apartment, or dedicating hundreds of hours and more dollars to a lush acreage with woods, ponds, streams, and ornamental plantings, there are few who do not respond to the sight of a new blossom unfurling, or the gustatory pleasure of the first ripe tomato off the vine. The exhibition, "Cultivating Canadian Gardens", tells the story of the development of gardening in Canada through the books, periodicals, and printed materials collected, for the most part, by the National Library of Canada. It begins with the earliest recorded information on the plantings of the Hurons who had been tending their crops long before Europeans arrived in North America, and concludes with a brief look at the flood of printed material now available across the country.
