Futurism
Futurism came into being with the appearance of a manifesto published by the poet Filippo Marinetti on the front page of the February 20, 1909, issue of Le Figaro. It was the very first manifesto of this kind.
Marinetti summed up the major principles of the Futurists. He and others espoused a love of speed, technology and violence. Futurism was presented as a modernist movement celebrating the technological, future era. The car, the plane, the industrial town were representing the motion in modern life and the technological triumph of man over nature. Some of these ideas, specially the use of modern materials and technique, were taken up later by Marcel Duchamp (French, 1887-1968), the cubist, the constructivist and the dadaist.
Futurism was inspired by the development of Cubism and went beyond its techniques. The Futurist painters made the rhythm of their repetitions of lines. Inspired by some photographic experiments, they were breaking motion into small sequences, and using the wide range of angles within a given time-frame all aimed to incorporate the dimension of time within the picture. Brilliant colors and flowing brush strokes also additionally were creating the illusion of movement. Futurism influenced many other 20th century art movements, including Art Deco, Vorticism, Constructivism and Surrealism.

Back to Top Inspired by the glories of the new technological world and upset by the arts desire to continue to focus on "classical" works, the Italian Futurists sought to bring movement and chaos to the theatre world. Marinetti, the major proponent of the movement, sought to create a theatre a mechanization and movement - a theatre which captured the true spirit of the future. "The Futurists rejected the past and wished to transform reality ... [they] deplored the veneration of the past as a barrier to progress ... [and] glorified the energy and speed of the machine age." Futurism or 'Machine Art' in the USSR
In Russia, the Futurist impulse combined with Kandinsky's "abstract expressionism" to inspire Futurist, Cubo-Futurist, and Suprematist works of art. In addition to Malevich and Tatlin, the work of Gustav Klutsis , Liubov Popova and Alexander Rodchenko is of special interest to our studies in visual culture. These styles share much with what I have identified as Constructivism In addition to the files below, take a look at these files in order to gauge the practical implications and the reception of accorded to Cubism and Futurism in Russia.

  • A belief that the meaning of life and one's personal fulfillment lie in the future and not in the present or past. An artistic movement originating in Italy around 1910 whose aim was to express the energetic, dynamic, and violent quality of contemporary life, especially as embodied in the motion and force of modern machinery.

var tcdacmd="cc=edu;dt"; Encyclopedia futurism, Italian school of painting, sculpture, and literature that flourished from 1909, when Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's first manifesto of futurism appeared, until the end of World War I. Carlo Carr , Gino Severini, and Giacomo Balla were the leading painters and Umberto Boccioni the chief sculptor of the group. The architect Antonio Sant' Elia also belonged to this school. The futurists strove to portray the dynamic character of 20th-century life; their works glorified danger, war, and the machine age, attacked academies, museums, and other establishment bastions, and, in theory at least, favored the growth of fascism. The group had a major Paris exhibition in 1912 that showed the relationship of their work to cubism . Their approach to the rendering of movement by simultaneously representing several aspects of forms in motion influenced many painters, including Duchamp and Delaunay. A lightweight alloy of rooftop Beatles, good natured bolshevik, arch-royalist Scarlet Pimpernel and Woodstock Hendrix. Next, the camera pans down to a mini rock festival that's getting underway amongst the picturesque lawns of the Queens back garden. There's Brian Wilson rippling his fingers over the keyboard in a spasms of harmony, Elton John beamed live from the state rooms, Ray Davis in a Union Jack jacket. All You Need Is Love as the new national anthem - Sir Pauls double thumbs up a new salute,  Ozzie Ozbourne and the Queen. 50 years of monarchic memory lane played out through soundtracks and tableauxs. New cities of Iran flourish throughout the cosmos. Time travel makes it possible to change the history and encounter great Iranian personalities. The calendar year is based upon Zarathushtra's birthday. The flag of Iran is red yellow and purple the colors of the "Kaveyani" flag which was raised more than 9000 years ago by a worker named "Kaveh". This flag is seen on Iran's spaceships and uniforms. These are the values of a future Iran. Values which have their roots deep in the creation of Iran's foundations. Here you read many stories
Stories of future based on positive and good human values. I hope this would open the way for future generations to think good and positive. Future should be visioned in a positive manner. This positivism is the result of our negative pessimism colliding with the negative past and present, thus producing positive evolvement and progress for humanity. ( Baktash )
Humanity needs positive and good thinking. Its the essence of this good thought that has made humans evolve to a higher plain. Human which has derived from the Avestan word Vohuman means Good Thought.

Boards Of Canada-Oscar See Through Red Eye
(Image above done by ubiquitous British artist, Banksy. You can see more of his artwork here)
-New Boards Of Canada coming out October 18th. I've heard the entire new album and their last effort, "Geogaddi", pales in comparison. This is like the BOC album I've been wanting to hear for a long time. It's been three years since "Geogaddi" and it's been worth the wait. Far darker and expansive than the last, unrestrainedbeautiful.
-New Supreme line dropping soon. A favorite of mine is the "Zapatista" shirt; perfect timing. I'm in full throttle revolutionary mode, haha.
-I really recommend you see The Constant Gardener , utterly brilliant. Directed by Fernando Meirelles, whose last effort "City Of God" you've all heard of by now. Based on a John Le Carre book about the pharmaceutical business in Africa, haunting and incredibly moving.
