Our mission is to share with you very good pictures of turtles
and a few pictures of amphibians and other reptiles found in North America. We provide many pictures of each animal and many animals of the same species.
We try to capture their personalities and to show young ones growing over time.
For identification purposes, we try to show each animal's plastron or belly. Our mission has grown to include the sharing of techniques we use to care
for our pet turtles, some unusual how to projects, and other first hand information.
This is accomplished by a series of articles containing many pictures we call tours.
See the Raising Baby Turtles page.
We love hearing from you and we will try to help you solve your turtle problems. So if you have a question, a problem, or a comment, send us an e-mail. Contact Us We appreciate that some turtle owners need to find new homes for their pet turtles. So if you have a turtle or tortoise that needs a new home, list it here.

    Combinatorial Games
Mathematicians use the words "game theory" in two different senses. The more common sense of the word includes things like the Prisoner's Dilemma, poker, the New York Stock Exchange, or other "imperfect-information" games. Research in this type of game theory makes a lots of money for a lot of people, and has even resulted in a few Nobel prizes. An introductory sketch is available at Drexel University. Those aren't the kind of mathematical games I like. Combinatorial game theory tries to analyze the outcomes of "perfect-information" games like Nim and Tic-tac-toe. More difficult real-world examples are Hex, Reversi, Mancala, Checkers, Chess, Shogi, and Go. Nancy Casey has a

Keep in mind that some species are found statewide, and others are found only in certain regions of the state. When you think you have identified a frog or toad, be sure to read about that species' RANGE (where it is found) to confirm that the species lives in the area of the state where you saw the frog in question. Ranges are included in the descriptions.

Newt find causes big headache in village
Construction under threat. Report By STEVE KNIGHT
Pond Life: Iwade parish council chairman Peter Wilks highlights the village's great crested newt problem AN ENDANGERED species of newt could halt further construction work in Iwade if a survey reveals it is threatening their habitat. A conservation area was set up to protect the creatures, which included a fence running around the school pond and two special breeding mounds. Proposals for a new car park and burial ground at All Saints' Church could also be shelved to ensure the newts, protected by strict legislation, are not disturbed. Iwade Parish Council chairman Peter Wilks said the issue had taken everybody by surprise. He said: "We have been quite looking forward to getting this land for the community, but now the question of great crested newts has popped up. "We weren't really aware these creatures were here, but it really hit us when the school building had to be stopped. The builders were almost on the doorstep when everything came to a halt."

Harder frogs and toads comprise the order Anura, or Salientia, one of the three There are about 3500 known species of frogs and 300 kinds of toads.
http://42explore.com/frogs.htm
The Topic:
Frogs and Toads
Easier - A frog is a small tailless amphibian animal. They have smooth, moist skin, long hind legs, webbed feet, and bulging eyes. As amphibians, frogs live in water during the first part of their lives and in or near water as adults. Frogs are good swimmers and can make long jumps. Frogs spend more of their time in water than their close relative, toads. Very much like a frog, toads are also small tailless amphibians, but they have dry, rough skin. When grown, toads live mostly on land. Harder - Frogs and toads comprise the order Anura, or Salientia, one of the three main groups of amphibians. There are about 3,500 known species of frogs and 300 kinds of toads. They are found on every continent except Antarctica. Some types spend their entire life in or near water, but others live mainly on land and come to the water only to mate. A few other species never enter the water. Some frogs and toads are climbers that dwell in trees or burrowers that live underground. Generally, toads have a broader, flatter body and darker, drier, bumpy skin than most frogs. Toads also have shorter, less powerful back legs. Toads have a pair of parotoid glands located on the top of their heads. These glands produce a poison that can make people ill or cause eye irritation. Some frogs have poison glands that oozes onto their skin. If an enemy grabs the frog, the poison repels the predator.

  • This supplemental unit provides Internet resources for K-3 students to learn interesting facts about frogs and toads. They will also focus on friendship, the central theme of Frog and Toad are Friends . Students will draw and write about a special friend. As a culminating activity they will make a new friend and e-mail a message just like Frog wrote a letter to Toad. Keypals will be from another part of the United States or even another country.
