Ancient Egyptians and the Constellations: Part 20
The Port Adelaide Masonic Centre 1928
If there was ever any doubt that Freemasonry is the child of the Ancient Egyptians it is dispelled at the Port Adelaide Freemasonic Centre for it is here that the Number Two Lodge of South Australia is built in the form of an Egyptian Temple!
Until only a few years ago in South Australia the Freemasonic Lodge Room was called the Temple.
The Port Adelaide Masonic Centre, Number Two Lodge
of South Australia, is built in the form of an Egyptian Temple!
The side of the Egyptian Temple faces the main road while the front faces a side street. The shadowed area under the verandah is a group of shops.
The side of the Masonic Centre/Egyptian Temple
Excepting the shop fronts, the front of the Temple is not unlike the side in design. So realistic is the Temple that with the Australian Summer Sun burning down and the vividly blue sky a person could imagine having been transported to Egypt.

B-P and Freemasonry Many Scouters express interest in whether or not B-P was a Freemason. The values of Scouting are said to closely parallel those of Freemasonry and many of B-P's contemporaries were members of the fraternity. In researching this subject, I became acquainted with a long-time Scouter and Mason, who has devoted considerable effort to the question. His researches have included correspondence with the United Grand Lodge of England, the competent Masonic body in England, and with Brother Scouters and Masons in Belgium, England, Australia and the United States. His research leads him to the conclusion that B-P, most probably, was not a Freemason. The author, now in his 80's, is a 32º Mason, an Eagle Scout, and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He has generously given permission for the publication of the conclusions of his research, requesting only that his manuscript be published without direct attribution, as he feels he is of an age and time when he does not feel able to respond to correspondence and would not wish to appear ungracious. He devotes most of his energy in continued research and writing on Freemasonry. An article edited from this manuscript has appeared in Masonic publications. Lord Baden-Powell, Benefactor of Boyhood

MASON, MASONRY AND FREEMASONRY
Who, What and Where
FREEMASONRY is first and foremost a fraternity. It is also “ A Way of Life.” The brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God is primary – this means that its activities should always be designed to promote friendship, morality and brotherly love. Freemasonry is a unique institution that has been a major part of community life in America for over two hundred and fifty (250) years. It is America 's largest and oldest fraternity, and one that continues to be an important part of many men's personal lives and growth. Although Freemasonry is not a religion, its emphasis on the Fatherhood of God ensures that the Brotherhood of Man follows naturally. This coupled with the obligation to abide by the Golden Rule, particularly with a fellow Mason, makes for one of the strongest bonds of society. When you meet another Mason, the odds that he will treat you as you would like to be treated are very high indeed. Who are Masons?

148. THE ROOTS OF THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT - New Age In Ancient History- Gnosticism - Alc
New Age philosophy is based on ancient traditions, alchemy, gnosticism, Rosicrucianism, freemasonry. Its roots are explored in Eastern and Western traditions.
http://www.xs4all.nl/~wichm/newage3.html
Nederlandse tekst
The New Age movement is hardly novel! Its philosophy is rooted in ancient traditions, often based on mystical experiences, each within a different context. Anthropologically, there have always been (wo)men within "primitive" societies who were looked upon as possessing special knowledge and power. Medicine men, or shamans, had undergone a spontaneous catharsis, or were initiated and felt called upon to maintain contact with the spirit world for the clan. When communities became more complex and organized there was little place for these loners. Society began to specialize, people realized and felt drawn to form groups, guilds, or societies, to ensure continuance and growing perfection. Contact with the spirit world was given into the hands of organized religion, which also provided an established answer to questions about the unknown and the Highest Power. People who felt endowed with special powers could hardly adapt themselves to the corset of established faith. They went underground. Yet they endeavoured to contact kindred spirits and pupils willing to follow in their footsteps to pass on the work. Esoteric tradition became handed down in spiritual groups, communes, or fraternities. Their mutual devotion resulted in a high degree of perfection comparable to the guilds of craftsmen. In their mystical experiences they beheld a spiritual reality that could hardly be reconciled with the dogmatic representation given by the churches. When passing on their experiences, they had to exercise extreme caution, lest being accused of heresy. Yet knowledgeable minds would understand their veiled writings, symbolic representations, or even gestures.

FREEMASONRY EXPLAINED
FREEMASONRY - JUST WHO ARE THE FREEMASONS?
That's not a surprising question. Even though Freemasons are members of the largest and oldest fraternity in the world, MASONS or FREEMASONRY, and even though almost everyone has a father or grandfather or uncle who was a Mason, many people aren't quite certain just who Masons are or what freemasonry is about.
The answer is simple. Freemasons are members of a fraternity known as Freemasonry or Masonry. A fraternity is a group of men (just as a sorority is a group of women) who join together because:
  • There are things they want to do in the world. There are things they want to do "inside their own minds." They enjoy being together with men they like and respect.
  • (we'll look at some of these things later)

    What is Freemasonry?
    Introduction:
F reemasonry is one of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies. This leaflet is intended to explain Freemasonry as it is practised under the United Grand Lodge of England, which administers Lodges of Freemasons in England and Wales and in many places overseas. The explanation may correct some misconceptions. Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its precepts by a series of ritual dramas, which follow ancient forms and use stonemasons' customs and tools as allegorical guides. The Essential Qualification for Membership:
T he essential qualification for admission into and continuing membership is a belief in a Supreme Being. Membership is open to men of any race or religion who can fulfil this essential qualification and are of good repute. Freemasonry and Religion:
F reemasonry is not a religion, nor is it a substitute for religion. Its essential qualification opens it to men of many religions and it expects them to continue to follow their own faith. It does not allow religion to be discussed at its meetings.
