In shape it resembles a hexagon of which the sides are: (1) From Dunkirk to Point St-Matthieu (sands and dunes from Dunkirk to the mouth of the Somme; cliffs, called falaises Christianity Revolution , is responsible for the present purely arbitrary divisions of the soil, known as "departments". Internet Conference Report 39th EASL - April 14 - 18, 2004, Berlin Germany Hepatitis B Genotypes in France: Geography, Relation to Fibrosis and HBeAg Positive Status HBV genotypes may be associated with progression of liver disease. The aim of the current French study presented at the 39 th EASL in Berlin, Germany was to assess the distribution and clinical implications of HBV genotypes in France. 280 patients HBSAG-positive (mean age : 45.8 yr ± 14, male:78%), from 5 medical centers were studied. The study population consisted of 66% Caucasians, Asians 16%, Africans 18%. 40% of the patients were found HBEAG-positive. The distribution of the fibrosis available for  244 patients was 45,4% for F0-F1, 18,9% for F2 and 35,7% For F3-F4. HBV genotype were assessed by InoLipa and sequence analysis. Results The genotype distribution for 265 patients with chronic HBV infection was as follows: A  25.4%

Internet Conference Report 39th EASL - April 14 - 18, 2004, Berlin Germany Compared to Caucasians, Africans Have Significantly Higher Rates of Fibrosis and Cirrhosis Despite Lower Levels of HBV Replication The study group consisted of 552 chronic HBsAg carriers without other viral co-infection who had a liver biopsy. Viral replication was assessed in 516 pts by hybridisation and/or PCR assays. Race was defined as African (Af, Blacks), Caucasian (Cc, Whites), Asian (As). Results The authors conclude, “A significant proportion of pts with chronic hepatitis B have advanced fibrosis despite a low level of HBV replication. Differences between Af and As pts suggest a considerable clinical impact of different HBV genotypes.” Reference V Ratziu and others.
