Movie About Tiger Cubs Preludes French Culture Year Two Brothers , a French Movie about twin baby tigers separated at birth, made its China debut in Beijing Saturday, preluding the French Culture Year which is scheduled to officially start on Sunday. The movie was shown in Chengdu, the capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Friday when French President Jacques Chirac visited there as the start of his China tour. "The box office on that day surprisingly reached 100,000 yuan (US$12,092)," said Weng Li, vice manager of the film exhibition and distribution arm of China Film Group, the movie's distributor in China, "We believe this movie will succeed in the Chinese market."
The movie of French director Jean-Jacques Annaud tells a story about two tiger brothers living in the rain forest of Southeast Asia. They were separated at birth, meet each other when they grew up and together escaped back to the forests.

MA in French Culture and Thought
[c] What is it to be French? How do the French perceive themselves, and how do others perceive them? What contributions have French writers and thinkers made to the cultural heritage of our age? These are the questions at the heart of this new taught M.A. programme. Here you can explore expressions of French culture and thought from the earliest periods of French writing, through francophone and (post-)colonial fiction , through film or cultural policy , to the critical approaches and interactive media of the present day. preparation for those who wish to embark on a PhD (research preparation). For not only will the programme give you a good grounding in the necessary research and analytical skills, it may also help you identify and formulate a suitable project. The school - Le château de Boigne STUDY IN CHAMBÉRY Learn to master French in magnificent surroundings characterized by old castles, lakes, vineyards, mountains, and national parks. Chambéry, the historical capital of the Savoie region, is situated in the French Alps and an ideal place to learn the French language, culture, and way of life. AIM The French language programs in Chambéry are designed to immerse participants in French through class instruction and activities with native French speakers. Classes are held at the leading French Language Academy, one of France's leading institutions specialized in teaching the French Language. It is situated centrally and close to Chambéry's medieval town center. The programs integrate all aspects of the language: reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary. Accelerated teaching methods allow participants at lower proficiency levels to acquire the language skills needed for effective communication in a short period of time, and at higher proficiency levels, expression proficiency at an abstract level. Topics studied include everyday situations, French culture, society, and history. A wide range of free weekly excursions and activities expand participants' learning opportunities outside of the classroom, and ensure that they experience French culture, the Alps and surrounding French regions while immersing in the language and society.

French Culture
Before my trip, culturally literate people informed me that there is much more to France than just the World Cup, and I should make sure to also explore some of its cultural treasures while I was there. Luckily, there was usually two hours between the early and late games, so there was plenty of time to investigate all the other contributions of French culture. For example... Architecture
France is well known for its medieval cathedrals. Here we see the Cathedral St. Dennis, well known as the burying site of kings such as Ronaldo the Mercurial and Roberto Carlos the Swerver. Architecture students will note the gothic spires and flying buttresses common in buildings of this period. Art
France has often been the center of the art world. You can appreciate this easily, as the fine French impressionist paintings, such as the one shown here, are displayed on posters, banners, and T-shirts throughout the city. Fashion
French fashion is popular worldwide. Fashions change rapidly to always be on the cutting edge. For example, here we see yesterday's Cameroon merchandise already on sale! Food
France has a reputation for having the best food in the world. While I do appreciate being able to get beer with my pommes-frites, and getting those cool ozone-depleting boxes you can't get in the US anymore, I found France's culinary reputation to be a bit overstated.

A Sketch of the French Culture
Jennifer Lambert
April 10, 2000 Being French means requiring fresh baguettes every morning, tying scarves with an artistic flair and driving a compact car with manual transmission; these are just a few of the attributes of a typical French person, but they fail to capture the essence of what is French. Americans often think they know the French culture because of their exposure to French from movies and books or their ten-day, ten country tours of Europe. The American relationship with the French culture is one of both admiration and disapproval. Our love affair with the French includes borrowing the ideas of the Enlightenment for our Constitution, imitating their fashion and food, and until recently encouraging our young to learn French as the second language of the educated and privileged. However, almost everyone has a stereotypical vision of what France and the French are like, and these portraits are not usually flattering. Ask an American about the French culture, and you will likely hear responses such as "they eat frog legs", "they don’t wear deodorant", "they are wimps because we had to rescue them twice in the World Wars," and most often "they are rude." Of course, certain aspects of the above are true for certain French people, but certainly not for all, and these stereotypes do not represent the values of the French culture. In the following sections, I will attempt to weave together different aspects of the culture in order to form a more accurate picture of what it means to be French.
