Market Analysis Consumer profile
Two significant market segments emerge from our market research with two subgroups each I. International arrivals
A. Standard or traditional international travelers aged between 31 and 50 years on package tours. Typically they originate in the US, Chile, Germany, Argentina, Spain, Italy and France. Target destinations are Peruvian tourist sites promoted abroad. Travelling on vacation, they favor well organized packages to get the most out of their Peruvian experience. B. Adventure travelers arrive in Peru to make their own travel arrangements. Basically originating in the same countries named above, their age fluctuates between 18 and 40 years. When travelling they seek for thrills, fun and the freedom to change their plans at will. They also travel on lower budgets. II. Peruvian travelers
A. A segment of trend-following young Peruvians aged 18 to 24 in the high and middle income levels who look for new ways of recreation. About 40% of travelling Peruvians (32% of the young population) travel with friends during vacations or for recreation; recreation is the main expense for 38% of this group.

Mueller Warning signs for dangerous park conditions, and the communication of warnings by other means, have become significant and often determinative issues in many cases of the last few years. In Illinois, the topic has gained much more significance since the end of last year with the passage of the Tort Reform Act, which took effect in November, 1986. This article will discuss the pertinent portions of that Act concerning recreational facility liability, hazardous activities and warnings which might provide defenses against liability claims. A list of decisions and summaries for a number of cases that show the different ways in which courts across the country view recreational hazards, and effective or ineffective warnings, is available from the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD). Meeting the test Liability claims basesd upon a lack of effective warnings must still meet the same four-pan test for all tort claims. The four stages are a legal duty to protect, a breach or failure to meet that duty, a causal connection between the breach and the harm, and an actual injury or harm sustained by the claimant. A potential for tort liability exists when a condition or an activity on park property appears to be safe for an innocent, unknowing user, but in fact the condition or the activity

CONFLICT IN RECREATION Executive Summary Mountain-biking Mountain-bikers ... NZ Mtb Web
CONFLICT
OVERVIEW
Both groups feel that their recreational activities are threatened and those who are most involved in their respective activities have the strongest feelings. This is reflected in the political activity centred around either gaining access for, or denying access to, mountain-bikers. It appears that the political activity, in a spiral effect, causes more conflict in the field setting which then increases the political activity. Conflict is not a problem limited to bikers and trampers. During the course of this research, I found evidence of conflict between walkers and runners, as well as between bikers and motorised vehicles.
THE EXISTENCE OF CONFLICT
As a group, walkers dislike meeting mountain-bikes on tramping tracks. Figures 11, 12 and 13 show how mountain-bikers and walkers, who do not mountain-bike, feel about meeting others on tracks. Some bikers deny the existence of conflict. From the interview data, it appears that males and females differ in their stated opinions on this. The males I interviewed, who did a lot of mountain-biking, all said that "99 per cent" of walkers were "quite happy" and presented no problem. This may be because few walkers make negative comments when face to face with a biker.

Recreation in the Australian Alps
For some people recreation is the thrill of skiing down a steep run, the challenge of climbing a new rockface or kayaking a section of white water. For others it's restful days in a beautiful place, tranquil walks and picnics in the sun...or the satisfying struggle to climb a peak with a heavy pack, or an exhilarating ten mile run. Whatever the activity, the common element is enjoyment. A useful definition of recreation is 'the pleasurable and constructive use of leisure time'. From another point of view, 'recreation in the Australian Alps' is in fact a series of land uses whose nature and extent has changed over time, reflecting the values and structure of society.
Enduring qualities
The enduring qualities of the Australian Alps - their magnificent rugged scenery and dramatic weather changes, and the challenging nature of the mountains - have long attracted people, and continue to do so. The steep slopes and open plateaus lend themselves to many recreation activities, and the alpine environment is the only one in mainland Australia that can provide the substantial amounts of snow essential for snow-based activities. The remote qualities of the Alps too will become increasingly important in an overcrowded world, and their interest for scientific studies - the natural systems, geology and geomorphology, plants and animals, first documented by explorers, miners and scientists - continues to attract another sort of recreationist, the field naturalist and observer of nature.

    Executive Summary Background
Previous research conducted by the author revealed that illegal trespassers and shooters cause considerable concern for farmers. The offenders appear to have little respect for farm property, frequently damaging crops, livestock and farm infrastructure. As a consequence, many landholders deny access to their properties to all but family and close friends. With many national parks and forests also restricting access to the general public, the opportunities for outdoor recreation in rural areas are limited. This study examined the nature and extent of illegal trespassers and shooters on farms and explored attitudes towards public access to private rural lands for recreational activities. Objectives
The main objectives of the study were to:
    • examine attitudes towards public access to private rural lands for outdoor recreation from three perspectives; the farmers, the hunters and other recreationists.

RECREATION ADVOCATES PLEDGE VOLUNTEER HOURS Recreation groups are joining U.S. Interior Secretary Gale Norton in supporting Take Pride in America. United Four Wheel Drive Associations (UFWDA) Director of Environmental Affairs John Stewart will present U.S. Interior Secretary Gale Norton with of pledge of 150,000 hours of volunteer work by recreation organizations to rehabilitate fire ravaged lands and help communities in need. Secretary Norton will be accepting pledges from Southern California organizations at a ceremony on December 31, 2003 in Pasadena, CA. Those pledges will be featured on a float during the Rose Parade. Recreation groups contributed volunteer efforts in the wake of the disastrous Southern California fires when members of the Tierra del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego provided close to 600 hours aiding Red Cross and San Diego County with damage assessments. Volunteer efforts will continue through the coming year as the Warrior Society, Cleveland and San Bernardino National Forest Off Highway Volunteers, and the California Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs help restore recreation activities in California forests. Stewart estimates the 150,000 hours pledged as conservative. Each year clubs nationwide spend hundreds of hours cleaning and maintaining trails. The site may be the Rubicon Trail, a desert sand dune, or a country road in Virginia or New England. The action is many people caring about the environment and their recreation opportunities.
