Actor Hugh Jackman won an Emmy Sunday for his work in hosting the Tony's last year. Hugh Jackman is also a new parent to his second adopted child and first daughter, Ava Eliot Jackman, adopted July 2005. His son, Oscar Maximillian Jackman, was adopted in May 2000.

    As a foster parent and Guardian Ad Litem, I have spent the last several years seeing the "child protection" system close up. I have known children that have been through unimaginable horrors within their families of origin, only to be further abused by a system that, in my opinion, doesn't work. There are no easy answers. The number of children in alternative care is increasing dramatically. The number of foster families is steadily decreasing. Privativing foster care has become the new panacea, but like most things, "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is". As George Carlin so aptly put it "It doesn't take a village to raise a child. It takes a Mother and a Father." The "system" abuses the children, the biological families, the foster families and the adoptive families. And God forbid you actually adopt one of these kids!!! I have known children who were abused before birth (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Effect), children who became psychotic, dissociative or had attachment disorder.
