Finnantara is a professionally managed timber estate company (HTI) with nearly 40,000 hectares of fast-growing Acacia mangium plantations in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Finnantara started pulpwood production in 2002. The company aims at producing more than one million cubic meters of wood raw material annually for the Asian Pacific forest industry by 2008.
We are fully committed to the principles of sustainability in all our operations. We have converted only degraded grasslands and other unproductive areas into pulpwood forests, and replant these areas after harvesting. We provide employment to more than two thousand local villagers, and share revenue from pulpwood sales with the community.
Finnantara is ISO 9001 ISO 14001 , and OHSMS certified.

sustainable forestry Education. Landowners Loggers - Foresters in Michigan under the sustainable forestry Education (SFE) Logger Education Program.
http://wildfire.for.msu.edu/extension/sfe.htm
Sustainable Forestry Education Landowners - Loggers - Foresters Goals
  • Provide needed continuing educational opportunities for loggers, foresters and landowners. Improve the level of communication between loggers, foresters and landowners to enhance the sustainability of Michigan's forestlands.
Background MSU Extension (MSUE) has been engaged in a major effort to train loggers in Michigan under the Sustainable Forestry Education (SFE) Logger Education Program. In 1996, MSU received over $300,000 from the Michigan Forest Resource Alliance and cooperating forest industries to conduct a 3-year educational program for loggers focusing on ecology and proper silviculture of Michigan forests, forest water quality best management practices, and OSHA/MIOSHA logging safety practices. To date, over 2,300 people have completed the entire SFE Core Training Program. Additionally, over 3,000 people have participated in some phase of the core program. Although loggers and foresters have been the primary audience for the program, there is also interest among private landowners and other interested parties. Having landowners attend is worthwhile, as loggers get to hear first-hand many of the perspectives of landowners concerning logging and forest management.
CORE PROGRAM
The core SFE program is a 3 day, 18 hour program for individuals who work in the wood products industry, though landowners are also invited. A wood producing company's key people, such as the owner and foreman for each crew, are required to attend this program if they supply an SFI company. All other employees are encouraged to attend this 3-day program as their schedules permit.

    Sustainable Forestry
T hrough careful planning, sustainable forest practices, and a respect for the land, the Menominee Forest remains a central part of Menominee life and economy. Many visitors perceive the Menominee Forest as pristine and untouched. In reality, it has been one of the most intensively managed tracts of forest in the Western Hemisphere. Visitors to the Reservation will appreciate the wisdom of the Menominee people in cherishing their forest. Nowhere else in Wisconsin can you drive along miles of highway lined with towering old white pines. Over the last 140 years the Menominee have removed two billion board feet of lumber. Even so, the volume of sawtimber now is greater than in 1854 when the Wolf River Treaty created the present Menominee Reservation. Foresters lists articles on Menominee sustainable forestry practices. In the Menominee language foresters are known as Metekukukiah Pemaenakuaq or "Keepers of the Forest." Essays contains scholarly articles on Menominee sustainable development.

forestry Tasmania is committed to delivering sustainable forest management. sustainable forest management is more a journey than a destination.
    http://www.forestrytas.com.au/forestrytas/pages/sustainable.html
Introduction Forestry Tasmania is committed to delivering sustainable forest management. By this we understand the need to regularly review the balance of environmental, social and economic outcomes. We must meet the needs of shareholders, customers, our staff, and the broader Tasmanian community who use and enjoy our forests for a wide range of activities. We are working with a broad range of stakeholders. We are continually improving our operational practices to meet statutory requirements and changing community expectations. Sustainable forest management is more a journey than a destination. This recognises that there continues to be debate about forest practices and how best to achieve sustainability. We do not claim to have all the answers. Indeed our commitment to long term ecological research, and a policy of continuous improvement, highlights our understanding of the road yet to be travelled. There continues to be community concern about issues such as those surrounding the management of native forests, the use of certain chemicals and some silvicultural practices. The resolution of these concerns in a sustainable way, that balances the social, environmental and economic, is not always straightforward. Click here for more
