the UW JFSP Remote Sensing Project
The Precision Forestry Cooperative was founded as part of the Washington State Advanced Technology Initiative (ATI) , funded by the Legislature. The University of Washington's College of Forest Resources, in collaboration with the College of Engineering, created the Precision Forestry Cooperative to conduct pioneering research in forest production, management, and manufacturing at a new scale of resolution and accuracy with the goal of producing economic and environmental benefits. The commercial forest sector has traditionally not had a high level of investment in research and development of new products and systems for process improvement. This creates an environment that is ripe with opportunities for the Precision Forestry Cooperative to leverage money and resources from both the private and public sectors to work cooperatively in developing new technologies that will bring economic benefits to the state. Overall, the forest products industry supports 7% of Washington's economy. Because most commercial forestry is in rural portions of the state, these areas will benefit the most from the technologies developed and deployed. Cooperators UW College of

After ten years of very succesful and world-renowned operation, his work was stopped by the NZ Labour government. You may find out about that book here This is the Table of Contents of my pages on the beech forest topic.

A long term management service is available.
Highfield Forestry Ltd was formed in 1981 to provide specialist advice to purchasers of commercial forest properties in the UK and in the North-Eastern States of America. Highfield is an independent company owned by its Directors who have between them over 60 years experience in the industry. In the UK it offers a complete acquisition service including professional valuations and appraisals. Following acquisition a full management service is available; Highfield already manages over 16,000 hectares of forestry throughout the UK. The acquisition process matches each individual client's objectives, whether investment, recreational or sporting, to the most suitable properties available on the market. Some examples are listed on the following pages. All necessary surveys, negotiations and briefing of legal representatives can be carried out by Highfield. After purchase an appropriate management programme will be set up in consultation with the new owner. Highfield Forestry aims to provide a responsive professional service tailored to the needs of individual forestry owners. Many of the company's clients are not resident in the same country as their forest properties so a high degree of extra care and responsibility has to be exercised in the management of their investments.

CHHForest Sale Now Unconditional
On 15 July 2005 Carter Holt Harvey (CHH) advised the market that it had entered into an agreement to sell 94,300 hectares of its New Zealand forest estate to a consortium comprising Rayonier Inc. and RREEF Infrastructure, the global infrastructure arm of Deutsche Asset Management for NZ$435 million.
The sale was conditional on approval of the Overseas Investment Commission and other normal commercial conditions.
CHH has confirmed that the conditions precedent have now been satisfied and the sale to the consortium is now unconditional and will be completed in early October. Australian Plantations Struggle With Environmental Regulations
An ABARE Economics report has reiterated the Australian plantation forestry sector’s concerns that the native vegetation regulations imposed by state governments are burdening the tree farming sector and are reducing the ‘net gain’ for environmental outcomes that tree plantations can provide.
“Under the current native vegetation regulations, it is extremely difficult for remnant native vegetation to be removed when a tree plantation is being established, even if the new plantation would deliver a better ‘net gain’ for the local environment by enhancing biodiversity, improving local quality or, in suitable areas, reducing salinity,” says Phil Townsend, chief executive of Tree Plantations Australia.
“The current native vegetation management guidelines in the states and territories cost farmers over $460 million per annum and remove the incentives for landholders to actively manage their native vegetation.
