Your browser does not support script The Saskatchewan Forestry Association was established as a non-profit, charitable organization in 1972. From our roots as a member of the Prairie Provinces Forestry Association, we continue to work with the Canadian Forestry Association and other provincial forestry associations on many national initiatives. In Saskatchewan our association is seen, by many, as the foremost non-profit agency delivering forest education materials and programming to both schools and the public at little or no cost to the end user. We provide a bias balanced component to our programming ensuring that we can deliver objective information about the forest environment and current forestry issues. (Rating Range: 1-5 ~ last year’s rank: # 1) Taxes of all kinds have been the number one issue among landowners for 17 of the past 19 years. After years of intensive effort with the U.S. Congress, both the annual deduction of most reforestation expenses and capital gains recognition for “lump sum” timber sales was expected to pass in 2004. The capital gains correction is still possible in this election year, but the reforestation credit improvement will likely have to wait until next year. NWOA SUPPORTS FEDERAL AND STATE CAPITAL GAINS TREATMENT FOR TIMBER WITH AN INFLATION ADJUSTMENT. WE URGE RESTORATION OF THE FORESTRY EXPENSE DEDUCTION, THE REPEAL OF ESTATE AND INHERITANCE TAXES, AND THE ADOPTION OF BENEFIT/COST PROPERTY TAX RATES (no more than $3 acre/year). 2. Home Basic > Future W hat are the plans for the future of the Canadian Forestry Association? The following lines were kindly written for us by the General Manager of the CFA, Dave Lemkay, describing the CFA's plans for the future. CANADIAN FORESTRY ASSOCIATION - 100 YEARS OF SERVICE The Canadian Forestry Association celebrated its centennial in fine fashion at the Forest Sustainability Beyond 2000 Conference in May, 2000 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The objectives of Canada's oldest conservation organization reflect today what was established 100 years earlier in the Spring of 1900. The CFA was formed to advocate and encourage judicious methods in dealing with Canada's forest, water and wildlife resources, to educate and awaken public interest by collecting and disseminating forestry information and to promote tree planting. A century later, the CFA continues a long-standing program of outreach to Canadian schools, orchestrates programs like Envirothon and Logging for Wildlife and special events related to National Forest Week and Forest Capital of Canada campaigns. These programs are made possible through sponsorship from government and industry and partnership with provincial forestry associations and others who share the vision of healthy forests and a healthy attitude toward wise use of Canada's forest resources.

July 06, 2005 National Forest Week and Arbor Day What is National Forest Week? National Forest Week is an annual event that gives people across Canada, who are concerned about our forests, an opportunity to tell their story to the public. It also gives all Canadians an opportunity to get to know their forests better, by taking part in activities like tree planting, forest tours, mall displays and many other special events. National Forest Week has been held since the 1920's, starting as Forest Fire Prevention Week and developing over the years to its present form. During that period its focus has expanded from prevention of forest fires in the early days to a broader look at many influences which can affect the forest and are affected by it. National Forest Week, as it has been known since 1967, focuses attention on the importance of managing Canada's forests to meet the needs of the future as well as those of the present. When is National Forest Week?
