21st September 2005 home about consultancy services analytical services ... contact us Forensic Entomology Forensic entomology is not a new science but has recently been in higher demand in crime investigation due to awareness of its usefulness. Determination of the PMI is not the only use of forensic entomology: it can be also used to show season of death, geographic origin of remains, movement or storage of remains following death, evidence of trauma, presence of drugs (entomotoxicology) as well as more subtle issues relating to the individual lifecycles of the insects associated with the cadaver. With extensive worldwide experience in dealing with crime scene investigation, forensic entomology casework and research, Defence Forensics is able to provide expert forensic entomology consultation, with crime scene visits, collection at autopsy or samples submitted by forensic pathologists in order to obtain as much information from the insect evidence as possible. Forensic entomology is very complex and does require a trained specialist to conduct forensic work suitable for the courts of law. Conclusions obtained from insect evidence can be very subjective and should often involve a broader appreciation of other forensic disciplines, which is not always the case from other forensic providers. We have a board certified forensic medical entomologist able to provide first rate analysis for the courts of law. We can review reports, PMI estimations and conclusions based upon entomological evidence as conducted by other forensic entomology providers.
