John Thelwall, the son of a silk mercer, was born in 1764. He first became involved in politics when he campaigned on behalf of John Horne Tooke in the in the 1790 Westminster election. He also joined Tooke's Society for Constitutional Information. Two years later Thelwall helped Thomas Hardy to form the London Corresponding Society
As well as campaigning for the vote, the strategy of the London Corresponding Society was to create links with other reforming groups in Britain. Thomas Hardy was appointed as treasurer and secretary of the organisation. The society passed a series of resolutions and after being printed on handbills, they were distributed to the public. These resolutions also included statements attacking the government's foreign policy. A petition was started and by May 1793, 6,000 members of the public had signed saying they supported the resolutions of the London Corresponding Society
At the end of 1793 Thomas Muir and the supporters of parliamentary reform in Scotland began to organise a convention in Edinburgh. The Society sent two delegates

Address by the Hon Peter Costello MP
International demographic and economic change, and what it means for Australia
On 21 September, the Hon Peter Costello MP, Treasurer, addressed the Lowy Institute for International Policy. In his speech entitled "International Demographic and Economic Change, and What It Means for Australia", Mr Costello identified the economic rise of China and India as the dominant narrative of the world economy in the years ahead and commented that the process of international economic rebalancing involved was working to Australia's benefit. He stressed his strong support for the multilateral trading system as one important framework for managing this process, emphasising that while trade liberalisation could and should be pursued at all levels – bilaterally, regionally and globally – bilateral agreements could never replace the benefits of the open, rules-based system embodied in the WTO. The Treasurer also highlighted the growing importance of the G-20 as an influential forum driving debate on global economic developments and governance.

On the Issue of Wartime "Comfort Women"
August 4, 1993
Cabinet Councillors' Office on External Affairs 1. Study background The issue of wartime "comfort women" has been attracting attention from both within and outside Japan, as actions have been brought to court in Japan by those concerned and the issue has been debated in the Diet. During Prime Minister Miyazawa's visit to the Republic of Korea in January 1992, the issue was brought up in the meeting between the Prime Minister and then President, Mr. Roh Tae Woo, in which the Korean side requested strongly that relevant facts be brought to light. Other countries and areas concerned also have shown strong interest in this issue. Under these circumstances, the Government of Japan, since December 1991, has been conducting a study by means of individual hearings of former military personnel and others concerned in parallel with a search for relevant documents. In addition, for five days from July 26 to 30, the Government of Japan conducted detailed regarding of former comfort women, with the cooperation of the Association of Pacific War Victims and Bereaved Families, in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, regarding the circumstances at the time. Furthermore, in the course of the study, government officials were sent to the United Sates to search for official U.S. documents and a field study was conducted in Okinawa as well. The following gives the details of the study, and a list of the documents discovered by the study is attached.

The Weimar Republic II:
Foreign Policy Problems
One of the handicaps from which the republican regime suffered was its acceptance of the Treaty of Versailles. The conduct of foreign policy was, therefore, an especially tricky matter for any republican government. Having opted for the West and for democracy in 1919, Germany could regard herself as having been rebuffed by the West at Versailles. It was natural to reconsider the other option, alignment with Russia, without, of course, accepting communism. As a dissatisfied ''revisionist'' power, Russia could regard the League of Nations as an organization of the victors alone.
Count Brockdorff-Rantzau, foreign minister in 1919 and later ambassador in Moscow, tended to think in terms of an alliance with Russia. But Walther Rathenau, the German foreign minister in 1922, conceived of German-Russian relations differently. He wished to gain freedom of diplomatic maneuver by means of treaties and agreements with Russia, but without sacrificing the long-range goal of accommodation and alignment with the West.
