September 17, 2005 (Saturday) Andy M. Stewart and Gerry O'Beirne in Ramo Auditorium (8:00 PM) Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for Caltech students and children. Advance tickets may be obtained by calling toll-free 1-888-2CALTECH (1-888-222-5832).
We are very proud to announce the return of the great Scottish singer, Andy M. Stewart, along with Gerry O'Beirne. Andy last played Caltech in 1987, and was also here in 1983 and 1986 with the all-star, much lamented Scottish group, Silly Wizard. He has long been one of the finest, maybe THE finest, Scottish singers in modern times. Though this may sound like hyperbole, one only has to listen to one of his recordings, to be convinced that his expressive, nuanced singing is truly unique and wonderful. He is very funny and entertaining, and over the years, he has built an outstanding repertoire of original and traditional songs, such as "The Queen of Argyll, "The Ramblin Rover," "Blackbird," and "Lover's Heart." Listeners will get Andy's perspective on the Scotsman's place in history and the world, along with a likely song or two of Robert Burns.
Accompanying Andy on 6 and 12 string guitar will be Gerry O'Beirne, the fine Irish musician who you may remember as a member of the fine Southern California band, Train to Sligo (they used to play regularly at the old Loch Ness Monster Pub in Old Pasadena. Since then, he has returned to Ireland and is in high demand as a an accompanying musician, producer, and songwriter. He has worked with such people as Maura O'Connell, Mary Black, Paul Brady, Cathie Ryan, and many others. He finally got around to recording his own album a few years back, the exquisite "Half Moon Bay." This show is in our larger hall, Ramo Auditorium, so there should be plenty of room for everyone.

Kathy Mattea holiday concert to feature folk, bluegrass, Celtic music
Grammy award-winning singer to perform Dec. 9 in Luther College Center for Faith and Life
A West Virginia native, Mattea took her musical talent to Nashville in the 1980s. Oft recorded through her early years in country-pop, she was not an instant star. She did not have a top 10 hit on the Country and Western charts until her eighth single. Future performances of the 18th annual Luther College Center Stage Series will include: Fernando Otero XTango Quintet concert of modern Argentinean compositions on Feb. 5; and Camerata Sweden chamber orchestra with violin virtuoso Terje Tonneson on Feb. 19.
