These populations include the elderly, people with deficiencies of calcium, magnesium, and/or vitamin C, and people with cardiovascular and kidney problems. Some people with cardiovascular problems may be at increased risk of fluoride toxicity. Fluoride inhibits glycolysis by inhibiting enolase (Guminska and Sterkowicz 1975; Peters et al. 1964). It also inhibits energy metabolism through the tricarboxylic acid cycle by blocking the entry of pyruvate and fatty acids and by inhibiting succinic dehydrogenase (Slater and Bonner 1952). There is evidence that daily doses of 34 mg fluoride (0.48 mg/kg/day) increases the risk of nonvertebral fractures in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis (Riggs et al. 1990). Postmenopausal women (Danielson et al. 1992; Sowers et al. 1991) and elderly men (Danielson et al. 1992) in fluoridated communities may also be at increased risk of fractures.

    Fluoride in Drinking Water

Do you know why there is fluoride in toothpaste and water supplies? The reason is because dentists recommend it.
Evidence is accumulating in science to indicate that fluoride softens bones and teeth. There is a scientific logic to explain why. Calcium, the primary hardener for bones and teeth, can form two bonds with carbonate to create chains. Fluoride can only create one bond. So if fluoride combines with calcium, it breaks the chain.
Gary Null, Ph.D. At one time, fluoride therapy was recommended for building denser bones and preventing fractures associated with osteoporosis. Now several articles in peer-reviewed journals suggest that fluoride actually causes more harm than good, as it is associated with bone breakage. A 1992 University of Arizona study yielded surprising results when they found that "the more fluoride a child drinks, the more cavities appear in the teeth." The words of Dr. John Yiamouyiannis: "The fact is that fluoride is more toxic than lead and just slightly less toxic than arsenic."

During this period of time, I operated under the alias of John Keats and the number 18-B-2. My testimony before the Government is incorporated in Volume 9 of the Un-American Activities Report for the year 1939. "While a member of the Communist Party, I attended Communist underground training schools outside the City of New York in the Bues Hall and 113 East Wells Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The East Wells Street School operated under the name of the Eugene Debs School. Here, under the tutoring of Eugene Dennis, M. Sparks, Morris Chyilds, Jack Kling and others, we were schooled in the art of revolutionary overthrow of the established Government. "We discussed quite thoroughly the fluoridation of water supplies and how we were using it in Russia as a tranquilizer in the prison camps. The leaders of our school felt that if it could be induced into the American water supply, it would bring about a spirit of lethargy in the nation; where it would keep the general public docile during a steady encroachment of Communism. We also discussed the fact that keeping a store of deadly fluoride near the water reservoir would be advantageous during the time of the revolution, as it would give us opportunity to dump this poison into the water supply and either kill off the populace or threaten them with liquidation, so that they would surrender to obtain fresh water.

Is Fluoride Really As Safe As You Are Told?
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Backs Down In 1973, British Columbia was considering mandatory fluoridation. They gave the job of researching and reporting the topic to Richard Foulkes, MD. Foulkes then wrote a 2000 page report and recommended that legislation begin to make fluoride mandatory in Canada. Based on that work, Canada began to fluoridate. Then something happened. Little by little, Foulkes found out that the statistics that his researchers had based their findings on were largely falsified. It took Foulkes years to run down the truth, but by 1992, he shocked the country by backing down from his original recommendation: "I now hold a different view. ... the fluoridation of community water supplies can no longer be held to be either safe or effective in the reduction of dental caries ... .Therefore, the practice should be abandoned."- Foulkes, 1992

The Associate Committee on Scientific Criteria for Environmental Quality was established by the National Research Council of Canada in response to a mandate provided by the Federal Government to develop scientific guidelines for defining the quality of the environment. The concern of the NRC Associate Committee is strictly with scientific criteria. Pollution standards and objectives are the responsibility of the regulatory authorities and are set for the purpose of pollution control. These may be based on scientific criteria starting point but they also take into account the optimal socioeconomic impact of proposed measures as well as the state of existing technology.
The Associate Committee's program includes the evaluation of available information on the probability of effects of contaminants on receptors together with the related fundamental principles and scientific knowledge. In this work particular attention is directed to receptors and contaminants (and their interactions) important to Canada. This Canadian approach is necessary because evaluations made in other countries or regions will not always be applicable to the particular circumstances prevailing in Canada.
Members of the Associate Committee, its Subcommittees and Expert Panels, serve voluntarily and are selected for their individual competence and relevant experience with due consideration for a balance among all sectors in Canada. Responsibility for the quality of study documents rests with the Associate Committee. Each report is carefully reviewed according to a multi-stage procedure established and monitored by the National Research Council of Canada in order to preserve objectivity in presentation of the scientific knowledge. Publication and distribution of the report are undertaken only after completion of this review process.

Environmental Working Group (EWG) has obtained documents suggesting that the Chairman of the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine falsified reporting to the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Chester Douglass has received several years of large federal grants to study the possible relationship between bone cancer in boys and drinking fluoridated water. Reporting on the findings of this funding, he told federal officials unequivocally that there was no relationship, but the grant-funded publication he cited found exactly the opposite. In fact, the research was done by a former doctoral student of Douglass's and was the most rigorous study of its kind to date.

    What is fluoride?
Fluoride acids are among the most corrosive chemicals known. The fluoridation chemicals used in public water supplies are waste products of the phosphate fertilizer industry . If the industry wasn't permitted to dump this waste product into our drinking water, they'd have to dispose of it as hazardous waste In some places (like Philadelphia), Zinc Orthophosphate (which is "slightly toxic" if ingested) is added to the water to counteract the corrosive effects of the fluoride. Fluorides are considered poisons in Pennsylvania law. Fluoride exposure has been linked to many health problems , including hip fractures neurological damage ADD/ADHD lead poisoning ... bone cancer and other rare forms of cancer There have been several attempts in recent years to fluoridate specific communities in Pennsylvania (where 54% of the public is already mass medicated with fluoridated drinking water). After 40 years of local opposition

    100. How Does Flouride Work? ( Healthyteeth.org)
fluoride is a natural element that can be found in many things, like the water Tooth enamel crystals that have fluoride are much more resistant to acid.
    http://www.healthyteeth.org/prevention/fluoride.html
Fluoride is a natural element that can be found in many things, like the water we drink and the food we eat. Decades ago, scientists began to notice that children who lived in places where fluoride occurred naturally in the water, had fewer dental cavities. Fluoride that is absorbed by your body is used by the cells that build your teeth to make stronger enamel. Topical fluoride - fluoride that is applied to the outside of the enamel - makes the crystals that form enamel more durable. Tooth enamel crystals that have fluoride are much more resistant to acid. They are less likely to breakdown and cause the tooth surface to become porous. If your dentist recommends a fluoride treatment during your next dental visit, you'll be receiving topical protection. The fluoride your dentist puts in your mouth will help make the crystals in your tooth enamel stronger. Always use a toothpaste with fluoride. Look for the Canadian Dental Association seal of approval on the toothpaste tube in your bathroom. For an experiment on the protective power of Fluoride, check out the Healthy Teeth Dental Experiments Page!
