Community Budget Issue Requests - Tracking Id #855 The FAMILY (Families Achieving More by Investing in and Leading their Youth) Program Requester: Stacy Gromatski, Executive Director Organization: Capital City Youth Services Project Title: The FAMILY (Families Achieving More by Investing in and Leading their Youth) Program Date Submitted 1/13/2005 10:39:49 AM Sponsors: Lawson Statewide Interest: This project addresses strengthening families (involvement in positive activities, increasing protective factors, increasing parental involvement, etc.). Using data from the Florida Network of Youth and Family Services, (FNYFS), lack of family cohesion is shown as a statewide deficit in the families of at-risk youth. According to 2003/04 data from FNYFS, and other youth and family statistics, their findings suggest an urgent need for family-focused programs and services in Florida, and further demonstrate that FNYFS member agencies already have established connections with a population likely to benefit from the FAMILY Program. July 1, 2003 . They are as follows:
    • Florida KidCare Enrollment. Families that need health insurance for their children should continue to apply, since applications will be accepted and children enrolled as space is available and according to the date their application is received. Waiting lists may be necessary in the coming year because of enrollment limits. However, Medicaid will continue to accept applications and enroll eligible children all year; waiting lists do not apply to Medicaid.
    • Monthly Premium Payment Increase. Effective July 1, 2003, the minimum monthly premium is $20 for MediKids, Healthy Kids, and the Children's Medical Services Network (non-Medicaid). Parents need to pay the higher premium, because their children could be disenrolled for at least 60 days if they don't. There is no monthly premium for Medicaid.

Healthy Families florida is a communitybased, voluntary home visiting programdesigned to bullet, Ensure families are satisfied with program services
    http://www.healthyfamiliesfla.org/aboutus.html
We Help Parents Be the Best They Can Be
Healthy Families Florida is a community-based, voluntary home visiting program designed to promote positive parent/child interaction and healthy childhood growth and development, thereby preventing child abuse and neglect. The program is modeled after the highly successful national Healthy Families America Initiative, which is based on over two decades of research and experience with successful home visitor programs.
We Only Enter Where There's a Welcome Mat
Healthy Families offers families of newborns living in targeted areas and who are experiencing stressful life situations, home visiting services that are delivered by trained family support workers. The family support worker is invited into the homes of families to offer support, promote positive parent-child relationships, promote healthy child development, enhance family functioning through the development of a trusting relationship, enhance problem-solving skills and provide linkages to health and family support services families may need. Services may begin prenatally or at the birth of the baby and are offered to families for up to five years. The intensity of service is based on the family's needs.
An Old-fashioned Notion: Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Healthy Families Florida builds on and coordinates with existing home visiting and family support services that are available (such as Florida's Healthy Start Initiative, Head Start, Florida First Start and Parents as Teachers) and is based on well-researched critical elements that represent best practice in home visitation.
