Policy impact questions were: (1) Was self-sufficiency increased according to various measures of employment, earnings and income? (2) Was welfare use reduced according to various measures of the duration and amount of welfare receipt? (3) Was participation in program activities and use of program services increased, according to such measures as attendance at, and completion of, assigned training or employment activities? Questions related to policy impact on family structure and stability, child well-being, and health benefits were also explored. The evaluation used a random assignment experiment in one county. Data on implementation, operations and impacts were obtained from administrative records, client surveys at 24 and 48 months, a survey on post-welfare experiences of families who have lost benefits because of time limits, staff interviews, client focus groups, site observations, and program documents. The project period is 5/1/97-9/30/00.

Florida Hurricane Relief Fund Funding List

Governor's Family Literacy Initiative - About The Initiative “The purpose of our family literacy program is to establish literacy as a value in every family . I believe that by helping every family in the state to understand that the home is the child's first school, the parent is the child's first teacher, and reading is the child's first subject, that we will do more to dramatically improve our educational system than any test will ever measure.” Florida Governor Jeb Bush
In Florida, Governor Jeb Bush has made strengthening families a top priority, beginning with a focus on family literacy helping programs that encompass reading, math, life skills and parenting skills, help individuals earn their GEDs, and help children start school ready to learn.
In June 2004, the Governor's Family Literacy Initiative began its fifth year of funding successful family literacy programs across the state with funding from the private sector, as well as significant in-kind support, along with support from the Florida Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education, and Just Read, Florida!.

On our first visit to Club Med Sandpiper in Port St. Lucie, my son, Aaron, then 7, water-skied for the first time and he joined the circus. My son – the one who used to cling to my leg like Fun face painting at Club Med Club Med lamination when I dropped him off at resort programs. But on the other hand, no other program we’d encountered dared offer the excitement of Club Med. We weren’t even checked in and he had already decided which activities he’d be doing.

hurricane awareness Family disaster plan Y our family's plan should be based on your vulnerability to the Hurricane Hazards. You should keep a written plan and share your plan with other friends or family.
  • Discuss the type of hazards that could affect your family. Know your home's vulnerability to storm surge, flooding and wind. Locate a safe room or the safest areas in your home for each hurricane hazard. In certain circumstances the safest areas may not be your home but within your community. Determine escape routes from your home and places to meet. These should be measured in tens of miles rather than hundreds of miles. Have an out-of-state friend as a family contact, so all your family members have a single point of contact. Make a plan now for what to do with your pets if you need to evacuate. Post emergency telephone numbers by your phones and make sure your children know how and when to call 911. Check your insurance coverage - flood damage is not usually covered by homeowners insurance. Stock non-perishable emergency supplies and a Disaster Supply Kit.

The Pensacola Historical Society was founded February 14, 1933 with twenty-one members. It was chartered as a non-profit educational organization on March 25, 1933. In 1960 the Society opened the Pensaocla Historical Museum in Old Christ Church. Lelia Abercrombie was the first curator. We expanded in 1992 when we moved our archives and library to the second floor of the Simons Building located at 110 East Church Street. In 1996 the Society had to leave Old Christ Church. Today we have opened the Pensacola Historical Museum in the historic Arbona Building located at 115 East Zaragosa Street.
