Explore underground caverns in the Withlacoochee State Forest where stalactites, stalagmites, and other geological treasures can be seen. Bring a flashlight, a hat, lunch, and plenty of water. Transportation provided.
MOSI member: $35 per person nonmember: $45 per person Fossil Dig at Vulcan Mine
The bulldozers did all of the major work, now practically all you have to do is search the surface for the fossils! But feel free to bring your tools for more digging. This mine is one of the premiere places in Florida to find fossil echinoids- ancient sea biscuits, sea urchins, and other marine fossils. Wear sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. Bring plastic bags to hold your fossil finds. Pack a sack lunch, and bring plenty of water. All participants will meet near the fossil site north of Brooksville Florida. A map with directions will be sent with your confirmation letter. Designed for adults and children over 8 accompanied by an adult.
