    Frequently Asked Questions
9-1-1 Telecommunications and Education The City of Lake Mary Police Department Communications Center is a primary answering point for all 9-1-1 emergencies within the City of Lake Mary jurisdiction. When you dial 9-1-1 from your residence in Lake Mary, you will be speaking to a 9-1-1 operator at the City Police Department . If the emergency is for Fire/Rescue the call will be transported to the Seminole County Public Safety Communications Center . The calls for Police Service are processed and field units are notified immediately by trained operators. When should you dial 9-1-1? Anytime you have an emergency requiring Police Officers, Fire Fighters or Paramedics to respond. This may include situations such as a fire, a burglary, an auto accident with injuries, or a medical emergency. When you dial 9-1-1, the Telecommunicator who answers the phone will ask you a series of questions including the location of the emergency, the telephone number you are calling from, the type of emergency and then a series of questions that are specific to the type of emergency you are experiencing. It is very important that you answer these questions so that help can be sent to the correct location, and that the correct public safety resources are sent for a successful resolution to your emergency. The City is part of the Seminole County 9-1-1 Group and has full enhanced 9-1-1 services. This means that when you dial 9-1-1 the Telecommunicator receives a screen with the address and telephone number that the call is coming from. However, you will still be asked this information, remember this information is coming from a data base, and all databases are created by humans so there is a margin for error.

  • HOME/SCHOOL CONNECTION
  • Overview Important Tips to Consider When Planning Family Involvement Activities:
Host events in the language in which parents have proficiency. Parents that are not confident in speaking English can feel too intimidated to attend events offered in English only. If an event is offered in English only, provide translators, if feasible. Parents who are not proficient in English should be offered invitations and materials in a language they can read and understand. Schedule events at various times, such as before school, lunch time, evenings and/or Saturdays.
Ideas and Activities that Promote Family Involvement:
    • Have a special reading day once a month where parents come in and read to/with students. For Read Across America Day (March) invite parents in to read to students or have students read to parents. Invite dads to school for a breakfast with their child, such as a Doughnuts for Dad breakfast.

After an extensive review of numerous e-learning platforms, the Florida Online High School (FHS, Orlando, FL, www.fhs.edu) has selected JonesKnowledge .com's (Englewood, CO, www.jonesknowledge.com) e-education online learning solution as its exclusive online course delivery platform. Phyllis Lentz, business development officer for FHS, says the school was surprised by the capabilities of this lesser-known offering and especially pleased with the company's responsiveness to the needs of FHS. Lentz adds that having delivered online courses for four years, FHS knew what they wanted. Given two similar products, flexibility and people made the difference. Their special requests during the proposal process included populating the testing area with an uploaded file, downloading zipped files from the testing area, modifying the gradebook for various grading methodologies, modifying the interface from an adult look to a K-12 feel and adding an "In/Out" box to the work submission area.
