    Professional Development Systems:
A Simplified Framework with State Examples
Comprehensive professional development systems for early care and education personnel are accessible and based on a clearly articulated framework; include a continuum of training and ongoing supports; define pathways that are tied to licensure, leading to qualifications and credentials; and address the needs of individual, adult learners. Enhancing a spirit of life-long learning is one goal of any professional development system; similar to this goal, a professional development system itself is never a finished product and should continually evolve and be refined to best meet the needs of the population it serves. Within professional development systems are several interconnected components. These components fall under five broad elements: 1) Funding; 2) Core Knowledge; 3) Qualifications and Credentials; 4) Quality Assurances; and 5) Access and Outreach. A one-page document that outlines and defines this simplified framework is available on the Web at http://nccic.org/pubs/goodstart/pdsystem.html

I found this sight today and have been having the most wonderful time on it.
My name is Cali. I work in California in a long term care facility that is also part of an acute hospital.
My duties are education, infection control, compliance issues, and of course anything else that has been cast to the side or anything else that I discover needs improvement.
I have been doing this for 3 1/2 years now. I really do enjoy it.
If you would like to start our own web ring so to speak then sign in on the roll call.
We can be very valuable to each other. There are many Long Term Care facilities and one of us in each building. Where are my peers?
    Hope to see you soon,
Cali:wavey: 08-17-2002, 04:53 PM :) Hello calinurse. I have been SDC and Restorative Coordinator for approx. 1 year now. I create a % of my own inservices. Of course the compliance issues inservices are created by the company for the most part however, we are able to submit some of our own for our "as needed" and "specific" requirements. I use a lot of our vendors for inservices. They love to talk about their products and provide education with it.
The biggest problem I run into is getting the staff to attend the inservices. With the shortage and the constant revolving door with CNA's I have found it to be a challenge to get them into the inservices. Do you ever have that problem and if so what do you do?

MISSION Download a copy of these guidelines. The School District of Hillsborough County is committed to providing the best educational opportunities for all students. The Alternative Certification Program (ACP) philosophy is based on a deep commitment to student achievement by providing high- quality professional development for teachers through a quality competency-based program. The goal of the ACP is to train non-education majors in pedagogy so they can make a positive impact on student achievement and provide quality educational opportunities for children. The School District of Hillsborough County has designed the Alternative Certification Program in accordance with Florida Statute Section 1012.56 Each school district may develop and maintain an alternative certification program by which members of the district’s instructional staff may satisfy the professional education course requirements specified in rules of the State Board for issuance of a professional certificate. The state board must adopt, by rule, standards and guidelines for the approval of alternative certification programs. Each approved program must include methods for identifying each applicant’s entry-level competencies. The ACP offers non-education majors, holding at least a bachelor's degree and/or meeting the legal requirements for which a professional teaching certificate may be issued, the opportunity to be trained as educators. After ACP completion, the participant may seek a professional certificate in the state of Florida.
