Note: this policy is currently under revision. Please consult the Dean of the Faculties website at http://www.fsu.edu/~dof for more information. A major concern of any educational institution, ranking with its concern for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge, is the maintenance of high standards of integrity and responsibility in the academic community. The Florida State University recognizes the responsibility of both faculty and students in developing and maintaining these standards. The legal foundation for the coordinated efforts of faculty and students to uphold academic integrity and combat academic dishonesty is provided in the Student Conduct Code (Section 1006.60, Florida Statutes and Florida Board of Governors Rule 6C-6.0105), which can be found in the Florida State University Student Handbook.

FRANK T. BROGAN
FLORIDA COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION
CHAIRMAN, EDUCATION LEADERS COUNCIL
Presented To
COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND THE WORKFORCE
U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES May 5, 1998
Thank you Mr. Chairman and members of the committee for the opportunity to speak to you today. It is a pleasure and an honor to appear before your committee as Florida's Commissioner of Education and as Chairman of the Education Leaders Council (ELC). The ELC is a national organization of reform-minded state education chiefs from Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Virginia as well as state education boards, individual state and local education board members and other officials from twenty-nine states. I am here to comment on the Dollars To The Classroom Act and share our thoughts on the proper relationship between the local, state and federal levels of government in the delivery of education. I will also highlight some of the innovations and reforms Florida and other ELC member states are pursuing at the state and local level. My own perspective on these matters goes well beyond my current office. Before my election as Florida's State Education Commissioner in 1994, like my ELC colleague from Georgia, I served as a classroom teacher and principal. In addition, I served as a district superintendent. As a member of the ELC, I have also had the opportunity to learn and benefit greatly from the successes and struggles of other innovative state education chiefs, like Superintendent Schrenko who also serves as ELC's Vice Chairman.

EPA Rejects Petition to Strengthen Smog Regulations WASHINGTON, DC
, July 8, 2005 (ENS) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rejected a petition filed by public health and conservation groups urging the agency to restore stronger anti-smog limits in some of the nation’s most polluted cities. The groups filed the petition in response to an EPA rule adopted last year to implement the new 8-hour standard for ground level ozone, or smog. Although the new standard is supposed to be stronger than the prior standard, EPA’s rule permits states to relax important pollution limits that applied under the old standard. In some cities, the rule could allow pollution increases of hundreds or even thousands of tons over levels previously permitted. Earthjustice petitioned EPA to reverse this weakening provision on behalf of American Lung Association, Environmental Defense, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Clean Air Task Force, Conservation Law Foundation, and Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. Last Friday EPA rejected that petition.

Southwest Florida College participates in numerous federal and state financial aid programs that are designed to assist students whose financial resources will not meet the full cost of an education. It is recommended that students apply for financial aid far in advance of registration for classes to allow sufficient time for application processing. Financial aid must be approved and all necessary documentation completed before aid can be applied to tuition and fees. The date of filing completed financial aid applications and/or a student's academic performance may influence the selection of a student to receive funds, the financial aid package a student receives and/or the amount of funding available. Financial aid is awarded on an annual basis, so it is necessary to apply for aid for each academic year. Students may have to apply for financial aid more than once during the calendar year depending upon their date of enrollment.
