Flamenco in the Temple of Dendur! At first hearing it sounded too wild to be missed, but, historically, it was most apropos. In its simplest form the word Flamenco denotes a gypsy from Seville and their dances. Some say the term originally meant "Flemish" and was associated with foreigners. Others that it refers to noisy, ostentatious public behavior. No one really knows where the wandering people known as gypsies came from, but it is most probably India, and there are records of them in Persia, Egypt and Palestine before the Christian era. They did not allow themselves to be absorbed into these and other lands and maintained their own pure identity although they were (and still are) treated terribly. Called "Gitanos" in Granada and "Flamencos" in Seville, they have lived in their own areas of these cities for centuries, producing an explosive and meaningful art form that is the result of both the different influences in Spain and on them as a unique ethnic group. The area of Andalucia lies on the southern coast of Spain, part on the Mediterranean and part on the Atlantic. Over time different invaders and visitors have left their mark. The Phoenicians arrived in 1600 BC. The Greeks came in 600 BC, bringing castanets, an arched back and spiral movements to Cadiz, where dancers were adored. The Romans arrived in 215 BC and the Arabs from North Africa invaded at the end of the 7

Flamenco combines acoustic guitar playing, singing, chanting, dancing and staccato handclapping. The flamenco dancer performs with passion, fervor, even tortured expressions but always striving for grace and dignity.
Flamenco handclapping produces a sharp, almost piercing sound. Those performers not dancing or guitar playing hold the left arm still. Its bent at the elbow with the hand about neck high and just slightly cupped. The fingers of the right hand slap the left crosswise, covering the hollow.
The dancer does not begin immediately, but waits, absorbing the strumming, clapping and singing until inspired to dance.

Flamenco - Learn Spanish in Malaga The Flamenco folklore is an Andalusian art, so their origins are in the South of Spain. Andalucia in the Early Middle Ages. Their influence can clearly be appreciated in its harmonies. The flamenco singing conserves great parallels with other musical manifestations of North Africa, such as the Moroccan music.
The guitar often reminds one of the musical manifestations not only from North Africa but alsol from Black Africa. The female dance, in particular the movements of the hips and hands, are similar to those of some North African dances. All these influences cannot be denied for being notorious and do not surprise us, if we bear in mind that Andalucia had been influenced by that culture for many centuries. In addition to this, various races lived together in these lands, which may let you realize other influences in the merry Jewish folklore rhythms or their ancient liturgical music, although one does not really know, whether it is by coincidence or corresponds to reality. In whichever case the flamenco art can be regarded as pure and as crossbred at the same time.
It contains elements of its own kind that it does not have in common with any other type of folklore, but at the same time you may clearly appreciate a high amount of influence streams other peoples contributed with the result of its enrichment. We know going superficially through the evolution of the

The Art of Flamenco Dance
When I went to Granada for the first time, I, of course, went to see a Flamenco show, as does every tourist. I did enjoy it, but to be honest, it was because I laughed through the majority of the performance! To me, the singer sounded like he was having a nervous breakdown over some drama (my Spanish was not good enough to understand what he was singing), and the dancers had such stern faces and coupled with their vigorous stomping and clapping they made me giggle. Or did I giggle because their passionate display of emotion embarrassed me a little? It wasn’t until I came to live in Spain, that I started to actually appreciate Flamenco more and more. To my surprise, I came to learn that there are many forms of Flamenco. For example, the Seguiriyas are a very serious form, talking about pent up hatred of persecution and often themes of death. On the other hand, there are the more light-hearted Sevillanas. These are two of many types of Flamenco music and dance, each having their own artists and peñas (Flamenco clubs).
