Who We Are
The Yukon Salmon Committee (YSC) is a public advisory body set up under the Umbrella Final Agreement. The Committee's main concern is the conservation of Yukon salmon stocks. With this guiding principle in mind, the Committee makes recommendations to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans or to Yukon First Nations on all matters related to Yukon salmon. Salmon Committee members also serve on the Yukon River Panel , which was established under the Yukon River Salmon Agreement. The Committee works closely with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Fish and Wildlife Management Board, Yukon First Nations, Renewable Resources Councils and the public. Your input is welcomed. The life cycle of the salmon is a remarkable event, which enriches the lives of all of the Yukon's inhabitants, both human and animal. Bear, eagles and many other birds and predators depend on salmon for their survival. For thousands of years, humans have also relied on salmon for food. At present, salmon continue to sustain a myriad of human activities, livelihoods, businesses and ways of life. Salmon fishing is also a popular recreational activity that brings tourists to the territory and enriches Yukoners' quality of life. The goal of the Yukon Salmon Committee is to preserve salmon stocks in the Yukon Territory in order to maintain this vital part of the Yukon ecosystem, economy and lifestyle. The Yukon Salmon Committee meets throughout the year to study, discuss and make recommendations considering vital salmon stocks in the Yukon.

North Dakota's 300-plus public fishing waters range from small impoundments to large river systems and reservoirs. They offer anglers many opportunities to pursue their favorite fish.
  • Walleye : The Missouri River, including Lakes Sakakawea and Oahe, and Devils Lake produce good catches of walleye. Perch : Devils Lake's perch fishery commonly produces catches of 1 pound-plus fish. Paddlefish: The Missouri and Yellowstone rivers' confluence provides the best paddle fishing in the state. A special tag is required to fish for paddlefish. Chinook Salmon : Lake Sakakawea is best for chinook salmon in spring and fall. Catfish : Best catfishing is found on the Red River, Garrison Dam Tailrace, directly below Lake Sakakawea, and Lake Tschida in southwestern part of the state. Northern Pike are common in many lakes and rivers. Bass, bluegill, crappie, muskellunge, sauger, and trout are found in many waters, too numerous to list here.
Fishing season begins April 1st of each year, although not all species and waters open at the same time.

You’ve got the wide open sea before you, and you need to catch swordfish. Where do you start? Capt.. Randy Towe let water temperature be his guide. A steamy 87-degree pocket turned out to be the hot spot as his team beat 22 others to win the second annual Islamorada Swordfish Tournament on Friday and Saturday. In about 2,000 feet of water, his angling team caught seven swordfish over the two-night tournament for 726.2 points. Two of those game fish were more than 60 inches, jaw to fork, so they could be weighed in. The heavier tipped the scales at 122 pounds, the other 105.
