Fishing License Requirements
License requirements and exemptions may be found in the Delaware Code A fishing license is required to fish in the non-tidal waters in this State. Non-tidal waters include lakes, ponds, inpoundments and streams where the tides do not occur. Most non-tidal waters are fresh except for brackish water impoundments. A license may be obtained from the Dover, Delaware office or from over 100 license agents, mostly sporting goods and hardware stores, throughout the State. Each holder of a fishing license shall display the license on an outer garment while fishing. Any resident of Delaware who is 16 years of age or older, but less than 65 years if age, is required to have a license to fish in non-tidal waters. The following individuals may fish without a license: The cost of a fishing license for non-tidal waters for a resident is $ 8.50 and $ 15.00 for a nonresident. A fishing license is valid through December 31 for the calendar year in which it is issued. Nonresidents may purchase a 7-consecutive day fishing license for $ 5.20. For freshwater trout fishing, possession of a trout stamp may be required (see Freshwater Trout Fishing Program).

Fish and Shellfish Regulations Olympic National Park Effective May 1, 2005 through April 30, 2006 Olympic National Park is managed as a natural area. The primary objectives of the fisheries management program at Olympic National Park are to preserve and restore native fishes and their habitats and provide recreational fishing opportunities for the enjoyment of park visitors. All waters within Olympic National Park are closed to the removal of any species of fish, shellfish, aquatic plants, or wildlife except as provided below. All waters as described below are open to fishing from one hour before official sunrise to one hour after official sunset. To protect the park's fish and aquatic resources, these regulations are subject to change. Please see locally posted regulation changes and notices and this website. Fishing Regulations are subject to change throughout the year.
Check with a ranger station for the most current information.

EMERGENCY CHANGE - August 3 - 31, 2005: In response to significantly lower than expected returns of Chinook Salmon in the Hoh River, the park Superintendent has closed the upper Hoh River, South Fork Hoh River, and all its tributaries in the park to all recreational fishing from August 3 -31. The mouth of the Hoh River within the park will also be closed to fishing for Chinook during this period.

YELLOWSTONE MOVES TO PROTECT NATIVE FISH SPECIES As of the summer of 2001, all native sport fish species in Yellowstone National Park became subject to catch-and-release-only fishing rules. The native species affected by this change are the cutthroat trout and its several subspecies, Montana grayling, and mountain whitefish. Most of the park’s native fishes have been included under catch-and-release-only fishing rules since the early 1970’s. The changes effective in 2001 primarily affect populations in Yellowstone Lake, its tributaries, and the upper Lamar River. Due to evidence that invasive introduced organisms such as lake trout, whirling disease, and New Zealand mud snails are having negative effects on Yellowstone’s native sport fish, the 2001 changes seem to be the next logical step to help repair the tremendous damage being done to the native species. Yellowstone cutthroat trout have declined throughout the west and are currently designated as a "Species of Special Concern-Class A" by the American Fisheries Society. A formal petition to list this subspecies as "threatened" throughout its range was submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1998. Yellowstone National Park represents approximately 91% of the current range of Yellowstone cutthroat trout and contains 85% of the historical lake habitat for this subspecies, so the park is considered crucial to the survival of the species.
