Ellisville Harbor State Park Rte 3A, Plymouth
Ellisville Harbor is a unique coastal property, including an 18th century farmstead, beachfront, salt marsh, rolling meadows, and red pine forest. It's also one of the most scenic spots on the South Shore coastline, where you can see small fishing boats, a barrier beach, sphagnum bog, forested upland and open meadows. Recreation activities include walking, bird watching, beach combing and sightseeing. In fall and winter, harbor seals can often be seen just off-shore. Between 2,500 and 5,000 years ago, prehistoric Native Americans hunted, fished, harvested shellfish and made tools here. The park was once part of the Harlow family farmstead. Park Directions

New York - Best Destination for Fish and Wildlife Recreation!
Question: What state offers the most for hunters, anglers, trappers and their families? Answer: New York. We have more than 80 state owned Wildlife Management Areas scattered across the state, containing 124,000 acres of upland and 53,000 acres of wetland. Through cooperative agreements, Fish and Wildlife Management Act cooperative areas provide access and management services to privately owned lands to increase public hunting opportunities. Many recreational activities can be pursued on nearly 3.6 million acres of state forests and forest preserves. New York offers more than 325 state-owned boat launching areas, and we have secured public fishing rights on more than 1200 miles of the best streams and rivers. National Wildlife Refuges are located in the Finger Lakes and Long Island areas. New York has great sporting traditions, from fly fishing in the Catskills to Adirondack deer camps. In many ways, these are the "good old days." Striped bass fishing has exploded and so far this year anglers have caught the new modern-day state record brook trout and coho salmon (the coho may even qualify as the new world's record!). New York City is a world center for the fur garment trade, and our trapping opportunities include muskrat marshes, beaver ponds, mink along streams, and even fisher and marten in more remote woodlands.

Recreational Opportunities on CRP Lands Lonnie E. Varnedoe, Jr.
Extension Forest Resources
The University of Georgia Introduction Although quality timber production may be the main objective for most of our CRP pine lands, many landowners have other objectives in mind. These other objectives often include enhanced wildlife, clean water, intensified forest aesthetics, quality forest recreational activities, and a variety of other purposes. As these CRP stands are beginning to reach pulpwood size, the big question for many innovative forest landowners then becomes: Which of the above activities can I conduct in my planted pine forests as they reach ten plus years old? First, it seems like a good idea that we get some sense of the characteristics of the trees and the environment they are in. On a site with average productivity (site index = 70) these ten year old pine trees will be about 6 inches DBH and forty-one feet tall. Originally planted at 700 trees per acre, they are now down to about 580 trees per acre due to losses of various types. The understory is mostly open and clear of underbrush. There is a layer of pinestraw on the ground and there is some room between the trees allowing you to walk upright in most places without fear of hitting your head on a limb. There are many recreational activities for a landowner in a CRP forest. Think back to the fondest memories of your youth. Perhaps you can conjure up carefree adventures involving a forest setting.
