LOUISIANA WATER QUALITY recreational activities water quality is essentialto these many outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming.
http://www.seagrantfish.lsu.edu/resources/factsheets/lawater_quality.htm
Home Fact Sheets Handling Offshore Catch on Board
Louisiana is blessed with an abundance of opportunities for people to enjoy water related activities. Good water quality is essential to these many outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming. Most Louisiana residents think of water pollution as toxic chemicals emitted from industrial plants or chemicals used along roadways or farms to control weeds and pests. These materials can pollute surface and groundwater if their application or emissions violate laws or exceed scientifically set standards. Definitions
Point sources originate from a pipe or identifiable locations in a stationary or fixed facility from which pollutants are discharged directly into a water body. Pollution sources, which do not have a single point of origin or are not introduced into a receiving stream from a specific outlet are considered nonpoint sources of pollution such as runoff from fields, farms, woodlands, urban lawns, parking lots, and streets.

document.write(document.title); What Is This Indicator, and Why Is It Important? Americans enjoy recreation in and around water, from birdwatching and fishing to sailing and swimming. Information on trends in participation documents the demand for recreation opportunities and can be useful in planning for recreational facilities. Why Can't This Entire Indicator Be Reported at This Time? Data on national recreation participation have been collected since 1960, but earlier surveys are not compatible with the most recent, and most thorough, survey. Data from 1995 are available for the activities shown in the figure (see the core national recreation indicator ). With the exception of freshwater fishing, these data do not distinguish what portion of the activities took place in fresh water rather than salt water. In 1995, Americans spent a total of 886 million days fishing in fresh water. The second National Survey on Recreation and the Environment is under way, but it is not clear if it will provide all of the data needed for this indicator. There is no technical note for this indicator; the
