This popularity became too much and we quickly filled all the resources available to us.
We needed to move, and quickly. So we moved to the world wide web, with many times more space to do all the things we couldn't do before, as a result the full web version of Fish, Tanks and Ponds came into being in Nov 2003. From the very beginning our two main objectives have been to help people get off to a good start in this wonderful hobby by actively making our often hard won experience as fishkeepers available to anyone who wants it by providing all the information needed in an accurate and simple to understand way.
Our other objective has been to very strongly promote good fish keeping ethics by making people aware of all the abuses which go on in the hobby, sometimes accidentally and sometimes deliberately, this is something we will never compromise on.

Wild fish consume 100% live foods (natural food) . Professional fish breeders and advanced hobbyists know the value of feeding live foods to promote natural color, breeding, long life, and robust health in their fish. Live foods are often the key to bringing fish into breeding condition. Live foods will save you money by reducing fish loss and make your hobby more exiting. Most Commercial dry or frozen live foods disintegrate in aquarium water and may contaminate the water, increase the level of ammonia, and promote suitable environment for dangerous organisms. Also, many species of fish refuse to eat artificial food unless they are starving. We guarantee that anything we sell which is supposed to be alive will be alive when you receive it, or we replace it at no charge (covers the U.S. and Hawaii), It's that simple. Question and suggestions are welcome. All cultures are sent with full and practical instructions.

    A 56cm long Carp
The Tuppal Creek capture site. The Carp is a native of Asia, but extensive introductions have helped to make it the world's most widely distributed freshwater fish. Three strains of Carp have been introduced to Australia, an ornamental strain near Sydney (1850-60), a Singaporean strain in the Murrumbidgee (1876), and a hybrid "Boolara" strain in Victoria (1961). The latter two strains have interbred and this species is now a major pest in many inland streams in New South Wales. The Carp is recognised by its small eyes, thick lips with two barbels at each corner of the mouth, large scales and strongly serrated spines in the dorsal and anal fins. The colour is variable, but often olive green to silvery grey dorsally, fading to silvery yellow on the belly. Small Carp could be confused with Goldfish, Carassius auratus . The latter however has no barbels on the corners of the mouth. Carp are reported to grow to over one metre in length, and 60kg in weight. In Australia, this species reaches 10kg, but 4-5kg is more usual. They are omnivorous, sucking and straining mud from the bottom and sucking insects and plants from the surface. Juvenile Carp feed mainly on microscopic algae, rotifers and crustaceans. View a larger image of a

Introduction The Ideal Fish Coolwater Fish Farming Opportunities ... Suggested Readings
    Introduction
In Virginia and throughout the United States, interest in fish farming for profit or as a hobby has increased in the past few years. Encouraged by the success of trout farmers in western states and catfish farmers in southern states, prospective fish farmers question if similar opportunities exist in Virginia's fresh waters. The prospects for fish farming in Virginia range from very good to poor depending on the objectives (commercial or noncommercial), the economic and water resources available, and the type of fish selected for growing. In this publication we present basic information on fish farming and discuss some of the opportunities and problems involved with growing certain freshwater fish and other aquatic animals in Virginia.
